I have been using my Audio Lab 8200cd as my DAC and my pre amp
It has been suggested that although the Audio Lab is a very good DAC, Using it as a pre amp would be considered the weak link in my system
I would like to pair a tube pre amp up with the YBA
I don't need a phono input ..A remote would be nice but not necessary
Something around the $1500 price point or lower

Thanks for any suggestions

I love tubes and have combined a tube preamp with a SS power amp in the past, but frankly, if you like the house sound of YBA, I'd just go with a YBA preamp.
Synergy and all that . . .

I used a YBA2 preamp for many years with the matching amp and then borrowed an audible illusions M3a and bought one two days later.
Was an incredible combo and a huge improvement to my ears. YMMV
feel free to PM me if you want any other details.

it is important to be careful of output impedance when using tube preamps into SS amps. Since the YBA 2 has an input impedance of 27k ohms it is advisable to find a tube preamp with an output impedance of 2.7k ohms or less across the entire audible frequency range ( a ratio of 10:1, though some advise a ratio of 20:1) for best performance

I've owned several pieces YBA equipment over the years. For me mating YBA withYBA gave the best results.

Nothing comes close to BAT.... and they cover all price ranges, from $1000, all the way up to the REX's, over $10,000, don't mess around with wanna b's.... go with a tried tested and true real class act... Balanced Audio Technology

I would mate YBA with YBA. You are really missing out if you haven't experienced it with your amp.

Thanks for all the suggestion
I have considered trying a YBA pre amp and that might be a good idea
I guess they don't come up that often??
Actually there is one on CAM right now but it is over my budget...But maybe I should keep my eye's open for one
I like the idea of a matched set and I do understand paring tube's with S/S can be a tricky game

Thanks Again

I had a CJ Tube pre with a YBA 2 amp--worked quite nice. Then Picked up a CJ MV60 Tube amp and ran it off a YBA 2 Pre. More changes after that..ended up with my keeper system YBA 1 amp with YBA 2 pre (and YBA 1 CD). I did have a bit of work done to the YBA pre as I found the dual volume controls did not track very well--went to a high quality single VC and it works and sounds even more magical. You should be able to find a very nice YBA pre in your budget.

in your price range YBA 2 preamps do come up on canuckaudiomart.....two choices of power supply, the larger power supply is preferable, But i would buy the YBA 1 with smaller supply it is more extended at the frequencies and has a richer more organic midrange. I have had both preamps, and of course to my ears but YMMV,
