If you are looking for LP storage, are into design and have plenty of money you may like the following:

Pretty cool. The prices of the modular cubes seems reasonable enough until you scroll down to the bottom to see the really nice stuff: the Kai High and Kai Wide shelving. Yowza!

Build your own.
Cheaper, stronger (3/4 inch plywood) more pure storage. Home Depot cut all the pieces, just screw it together. Paint if you want.

The skinny legs and mitred joints, I don't know. Is there a weight rating in their specs?

Hi
The link shows a chair on wheels I like,it's not cheap though. Every time you sit on it ,you reminded you're at the dentist.

Trusting 1000 lbs to an Ikea Expedit is a major risk. Hope his gear wasn't under the pile of records. I've seen the Expedit close up and didn't trust it. The ones I purchased at Rona are more heavy duty.

The other guys beat me to it but the weight of a thousand Lp"s or so is considerable.
I had a friend that does wood working as a hobby build me a stand to hold 1,500 LP's.
When I told him what I wanted he thought my specs were "overkill".
No such thing.
Nothing short of an earthquake with budge it. Ikea? Sorry,I'll have to pass.

Hi
The Ikea Kallax (4x4) is fine as long as you follow a few guide lines assembling it. Add glue to the wood dowels ,install backboard, orient the assembled rack in such upright position so that the intermediate shelves running through the width, attach it to the wall behind with provided braces.
However you can eliminate a lot of risk by going with a (2x4) unit and place in on side, much more stable since it's not top heavy, then you can joint (mechanically by through bolts) another (2x4) to it standing, you can expand by interlocking the units.

I don't know which Ikea unit I have, but its sturdy and cheap.
It depends on your budget, taste and practicality. The design of the unit I have can be easily modified to make it more than strong enough.
Securing to the wall in a couple of places helps as well. Having a 1000 lps fall on top of you would break more than your heart.

I have a 2x4 Ikea unit, this was before they cheapened the design and made it much less sturdy. However, I saw online once a clever idea with the large Ikea unit meant to hold lots of records. The guy added 1x3" wood along the back of every shelf. The added bonus was that it is a stop for the records, so they all line up well at the front. The added wood substantially increases the strength. Could be used for any of those other similar shelve systems.

Actually, think I found it.
