I enjoy watching movie in late night, while wife is sleeping.

She complained the bass is too much. I already turn down the volume and lower the sub's output. She is still not happy.

Is there a way to lower the bass and still keep the punch? Changing wife is not possible...

The subs are a pair of 12" Paradigm Reference 1700W RMS.

thanks ahead.

Vic

just shot them down pure and simple, if it s too loud.late night effect compresse sound on all channel and even that if too loud>. might as well keep it uncompressed and put the sub to off. that way still sound good without the whoooffm

You can turn the sub way down or off and use haptic devices (bass shakers) attached to your chair or couch. It works amazingly well and if done right you often can't tell the sub is off.

What were you expecting?

"Honey - I'm so glad you bought a 15x15" ugly box that sits in our living room taking up space and creates shaking vibrations which disrupt our neighbours and my life".

Easiest/most available thing to buy on CAM - a subwoofer!! Most come with an on/off switch. 8)

1700 rms? guess ear plugs for the wife won't work if the bed and floor are shaking

You need to ask yourself...what is more important...your relationship with your wife or watching movies late at night?

I tried many bass shaker.

aura sound; ok for the price
Buttkicker: just rumble, not my cup of tea. You will need a BIG power amp....
Clark Synthesis...WOW , I own 2 and you don't need a mega power amp to drive , They are the way to go IMHO

Try using some form of isolation device under the sub to reduce vibration through the floor.....this will likely improve your enjoyment even when your wife is awake......

That the OP is asking how not to disturb the wife indicates he values the relationship, clearly.

At the low levels you're going to listen to at night you're not going to get PUNCH from the subs. Just turn the subs off, vic, or look into soundproofing the theatre room.

edit: you might want to look into soundproofing the bedroom instead. You'd get a much better sleep with less ambient noise seeping into your dreams.
