Mac mc30's are decent and around $2500
Is the rest of your gear tube friendly? i.e. sensitive speakers

Cary Audio has made some amazing tube monos in the past. Owned a pair myself back in the day.

Oldies but goodies: Audio Research Corp. M100. Couldn't recall how much I paid for mine but I think it is in this ballpark or even lower.

These have enough oomph! to power pretty much anything except the most demanding speakers - QuickSilver V4 monoblocks $3,200:
http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/649254380-quicksilver-v4-monoblocks-tube-amplifier/

- 120 Watts
- hand wired, point to point circuit
- on board bias meter
- extremely low screen voltages insure exceptionally long tube life
- ability to use KT-88, 6550, EL-34 or 6L6 Output tubes means you have a lot of choices for tube rolling

No affiliation.

I own (and like very much) a pair of Audio Space Nova M-34 monoblocks. They list at well over the OP's target price, but if they're available used, their price should be under it.

Need to agree here. Perhaps touch base with Bernard at Charisma Audio (he's the distributor) and he may be able to help you out some.

You might take a serious look at the Blue Circle monos available on CAM. The owner claims they've been upgraded and updated. Maybe even talk with Gilbert about them. There's no doubting BC products and their customer support. They have an interesting look too:

With those KEFs, I think he'll need something with more juice than a 2A3 can provide.

I owned Cary mono's back in '95.

Best sound I have experienced to this day.

They were also close to the most unreliable amps I ever owned, almost as bad as my Simaudio experience. When they weren't eating tubes for lunch and weren't in for repair, they sounded great, something the Moon's could not manage, and THAT broke, imagine that.

I love my Ray Lumley M-100 tube mono blocks so much I bought a second pair. Actually they were going to be for a pair of Acoustat model 8 that never happened. They are 100 w/ch and handle my Acoustat 2+2 with ease using KT-120 tubes. They are difficult to find, though. I also have a Beard P-100 tube amp which is basically two mono amps in one chassis. It is also a KT-88 tube amp with 100w/ch. A very strong amp that also has a smooth and musical presentation.
