Hey all I'm new to the forum. I thought it would be fun if people listed the different speakers they've owned, from earliest to latest. Please list price paid, new or used, and list it in caps if you feel the speaker was especially good for the money.

Mirage 750(actually a loan from my Dad)
ENERGY C3 $500, new
b&w 705 $1800, new
Mirage OM 9 $700, used
AUDIO NOTE AX 2 $700, new
PARADIGM STUDIO 20 V5 $1200, new(demo units)

From my first stereo many years ago: No name made in Canada speakers that came with my first stereo. Jokingly referred to as "Acoustic Revenge"

In order from my first real speakers, which were purchased many years ago:
- original NHT Model Ones
- Linn Helix
- Energy 22.3
- ASW Genius 300, which were modified/upgraded with new wiring & caps

B&W CM4 - bought new, before I knew about CAM and the advantages of buying new...okay, but I always thought something wasn't quite right
Harbeth 7ES-3 - very nice speaker, but it always left me wanting more
Harbeth SHL5 - also a very nice speaker, probably the best I'd owned and would probably still have them had I not heard (and bought) the
JBL/Altec 3-way actively crossed over horns, with a Fitzmaurice THT horn-loaded sub...without a boat-load of cash to buy a commercial horn speaker, these will be likely my last speakers...they do pretty much everything I could want - detailed, very dynamic, they pretty much disappear, and they make music, without regard to what I throw at them...they were also the cheapest speaker system I've owned (if you don't count the crossover and multiple amps and EQ ;) )

James_W - perhaps what you are looking for and can't find in traditional 'box' speakers could be found if you try some horns...

I'm not looking for anything per se I just like trying different gear and updating my mental database on audio, it's something I've always done. My 2014 list would be even longer. If it was just about satisfaction I wouldn't have to move from the 802 Diamond D2's. Horns aren't for me, at least the old school designs. I grew up around them (Altecs mainly). I *might* bring Avantgarde speakers in sometime in the future.

As a reviewer I hear a lot more than I buy.

Fisher something speakers (uggh) free from Parents.
Hitachi HD speakers ($149)
Acoustech Labs ($200)
WHARFEDALE VANGUARDS $1190 (closeout going out of business price down from $2200).
B&W DM302 (Great little speaker) - $220
AUDIO NOTE K/SPE ($1500 - Regular $2700) - Soundhounds bought the entire world stock of them from the old cabinet maker so offered them at a good deal
AUDIO NOTE J/SPE ($2500 - Regular $4500) Same situation as K but only one color option - the unpopular Black

Became a Reviewer and heard most of the lines from virtually everyone. Some of the speakers that I have heard that I would consider owning come from the following:
Teresonic
Trenner and Freidl
Harbeth
Quad
ATC
Soundlab
KingSound
YG Acoustics
MBL
DeVore (only the AN inspired models "Orangutan")
Von Gaylord
Tannoy Prestige
Silbatone
Focal
Usher
Avalon
Acoustic Zen

Others I have liked but would need to hear more of to be sure:
Reference 3a
RossoFiorintino
Studio Electric
Gallo
Legacy Audio
Vintage JBL pro series (certain models)
Acoustat
Western Electric horn speakers
ProAc
Scaena
Perfect 8 Technologies
Gershman Acoustics

Back to buying
Tannoy CR 650 - $40 (Pawn shop - great condition - too good to pass up). Hangs in with virtually everything at $300 today. (well maybe not ELAC) but still not bad for $40.
AUDIO NOTE AX Two. With the right gear can be utterly terrific - with the wrong gear - well it won't play nice.
KEF LS-50 - same as the AX Two in regards to being fussy - but in a different sort of way. The KEF just needs the proper power - the AX Two needs the right front end(not solid state).

AUDIO NOTE E/Lexus HEMP. ($7,000).

I am trying to get the Audio Note E/SPx ALNICO HEMP as my next speaker as it's vastly better than the non Alnico Audio Notes -- but The price is dizzying. We'll see. Steven Hoffman the famed mastering engineer owns these speakers and it won speaker of the year in Asia last year (which unfortunately tends to drive the price higher). But it costs more than a Honda Accord so Sanity kicks in and holds me back.

And we still have 2 1/2 months to go!

I know you post a lot James but I would have to go back and look so it's easier to just ask here: Have you been switching out your source and amplification at the same rate as your speakers or has that been the constant in your quest. Any one of the speakers you have listed I would most likely be happy with but I'm sure with the time, space and $.... it's certainly a lot more fun. Have you ever gone up the Focal BE chain by any chance?

My much more modest steps;

Large Advent
Totem Mite
Totem Rainmaker
Totem Hawk
M-Audio CX8 active
Totem Forest

Hmmm.... I see a pattern. I think I'm staying with Forest for some time.

The list:

-Keesonic Kubs (my original first "real" speakers.. still have them)
-Mission 770mk2
-Rogers Studio 1’s
-DCM Time Frame 1000
-Hanson RST IV a monitors
-Martin Logan Aerius i
-Martin Logan CLS 2Z
-Mirage M3Si (have owned these twice)
-Energy Veritas 2.4i
-B&W Nautilus 804
-Martin Logan Ascent

All in the main system, and I think I’ve forgotten some of the less memorable ones that have passed through over the years.

In the “B” system, there have been a number of models from PSB, Paradigm, Castle, etc. But, now resident and not going anywhere is a pair of Harbeth P3ESR’s.

Panasonic Thrusters (very decent actually for a kid)
Paradigm 3se
Paradigm Export Monitor
Klipsch KG4 (yuck)
Monitor Audio 700 GMD (BRIGHT)
Acoustat X (very briefly)
Linn Index (could sound lean if not used in an all Linn system including Linn wire)
Rogers LS 6a (also auditioned other Rogers) Loved these my Harbeths are similar.
B&W DM 602 (best budget speaker ever)
B&W Nautilus 805
B&W 704
B&W DM17 the 805s of the 80 series. Brillant mini.
B&W DM100 (best entry speaker ever)
Stirling LS3/5a - sounds better than the original spec. More open and modern sounding.

Current: Proac Tablettes and Harbeth C7ES3 plus the old DM 602s above

Desert island speaker would be the Proacs. Best speaker overall regardless of money.
