I own Atrium 5's by Polk Audio. Military grade spec's and can be exposed directly to the elements unlike some other outdoor speakers.

Look at the Yamaha's too. They get great reviews.

What about using some marine Speakers? You can also install a marine deck into your bar. This way you will have a complete outdoor system.. Just an idea.

I got the cheapo Yamahas from FS for $99 a pair ( i believe it was a sale, reg $199) These are good speakers for that kind of money. Lets face it, your not sitting down in front of these and listening for hours. They are just for background music, so, good enough i say.

I'd go eaves, unless sitting at the bar and listening in the near field is preferred. I guess it depends on how close your neighbours are....

I did it 2 ways with great success I used a pair of JBL 3 way car speakers in boxes I built hanging from the facia on my back deck they are protected from some of the elements this way-sound ok and fairly loud I just have to be careful not to overdrive them-I am using a older Marantz surround home theater amp that was replaced long ago-I do take them in for winter time
The other ones are at the fire pit and are full sized floor standers that I have had for 40 +/- years 7 of which have been outside under cover in a open shed but exposed to the elements. These get run pretty hard at times using an old Pioneer 2 channel amp and either a old cdp or sirius radio for background music around the fire sometimes for a rather loud extended time.(no neighbours)
neither have shown any issues and still "sound" great except the cabinets on the floor standers are now shot

I use the Soundcast outdoor speaker...wireless, 6" sub with 4 (I think tweet/midrange). Lots of power, great sound, weather resistant and comes with mood lighting too. Has a rechargeable battery for true wireless experience. I'm very happy with mine. Transmitter connects to my AUX on my receiver so I can listen to radio, CD, or streamer. Has iPod attachment also.

I don't work for the company or get any benefit if you buy one.

cheers,

Paul

I'm using a pair of mission bookshelves I grabbed from Kijiji for $25.Built stands out of deck boards to match the deck and use banana plugs for quick removal.Have had dedicated outdoor speakers before ,but after a few years the elements get to them.I figure if the missions fail I will look for another pair of second hand bookshelves on the cheap.

Right now I'm using a Heathkit AA-13 6BQ5/EL84 integrated mono tube amp with a single speaker (Tangent RS6 right now) which I bring out the sliding door and put on a fancy plant stand. It sounds fantastic and doesn't need to be loud as the combo 'fills the room' nicely. We have numerous mature trees around and hardly any visible neighbours. I've kicked it up a notch now, so no more sibilant and/or crappy sounding systems outdoors for these ears! LOL

I bought it off CAM from a dealer in Welland. His name was Jeff at http://www.thomastv.com . It was a floor demo model, so he gave a decent price. He put the unit in the Post for me and it arrived a few days later. Good deal all around.

cheers,

Paul
