Hello All,
I am wondering if anyone has any experience with YBA amplifiers? I am looking at a YBA WA202 receiver/amplifier to pair with a set of Totem Mites and I am not able to find much about the brand online.
Thanks

I use a YBA Integre DT to power my Totem Hawks. The sound is very nice. But at the rated 50 wpc, it is very close to running out of horsepower. If I want to listen loud (not unbearably but comfortably loud), I am rotating the volume control to about 2 o'clock on the dial. Most of my listening is done around 10 o'clock with CD and 12 o'clock with LP. My listening room is small (aprox 9 feet wide x 12 feet long x 7.5 feet high and is farily well damped). I have just sent it back to Plurison for a check up as the left channel is distorting (and the power led was burnt out - apparently in shipping when it was shipped to me when I bought it). As your Mites are listed with a sensitivity of 87 dB and my Hawks are 88 dB, the reciever you mention might run out of gas if your room is bigger than mine. My Linn Intek seems to power the Hawks easier although it too is rated at 50 wpc.
So from a sound quality standpoint, it would probably be a very good match, but the main caveat might be the limited power with the power hungry Totem speakers.
If you can try it out at home or take you speakers to the place you are purchasing it - that would give you the best idea sound wise.
Good luck.

Wow jp! Thanks that was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you! Maybe I have to look at a more powerful amplifier....

I'm using YBA design YA201 to drive a pair of PSB B15 with Cambridge Audio 640C as digital source, is a small room 12'x8' so can't go higher than -20db, some times I have gone -15db and it continues to be very clean but too loud for the room, the YA201 is a stereo integrated amp rated at 100 wpc, is the cleanest and most musical integrated amp that I have heard at that price range, for all the info you need go to their website www.yba.fr as it is a French product by the great Yves-Bernard Andre' , there are two lines; the high end more expensive YBA and the more accessible for my packet YBA Design, the website for that line is www.ybadesign.com this will re-direct you to www.yba.fr/ybadesign/ . The're solid build with aircraft grade brushed aluminum, they are a beauty to look at and they sound as they look. you can download the manuals and all info from their site.

Bests

Hector

One of the most musical amps I have heard is the Audio Refinement Multi 2.
They were the precursor to the YBA Design and in my humble opinion a better sounding product. There were power amps in 2,3,and5 channels, a DSP, an integrated, a tuner and cdp.
Keep your eye out, they come up on CAM all the time.

Thanks to everyone for all the help. I will keep my eye out for a used YBA amp anywhere near Ottawa.
Anyone have any other ideas on a good amp to pair with a set of Totem Mites?

Cheers!

Ask Totem. They know best. Speakers are usually voiced by the manufacturer using equipment they feel is suitable to the target market. You wont be disapointed and your speakers will sound their best....

You can trust the usual Totem-SimAudio I5 recommendation or a Cayin 100T or a Cayin S200. Totem transducer like power and quality.

What is the size of your listening room.

We can help you better if we know.
If you go for 100 watt channel your probably covered.

If we know your room size their may be some ideas on tube
equiptment that might work very well.

Thanks for all the responses.
I like the idea of talking to Totem. I will have to do that. I am just afraid they will recommend something that is totally out of my budget.
The room is about 15 feet by 25 feet. It is carpeted. My budget is about 400-800 dollars. I would love it if the amp included a phonostage but I can live without it for now.

Also is 575 a good deal for a new pair of mites?

You room is a fairly good size. How far away from your
speakers is your listening position?

Average blue book value in US dollars is $420.00 for
Mite and Mite T.
Low vaues on mite is $240.00.
Low values on Mite T is $160's
Highest value was 600.00 but 600.00
is out of line and was only 1 sale all others were
much lower.

You may want to buy bigger speakers and for the same budget, consider a floorstander instead (Qyuad 21L or Monitor RS5) and they will be easier to drive too. Large room, small relatively inefficient speakers, not a combo I would opt for unless you are in love with the sound of the Mite.

Wow... Thanks for finding that for me.
Are those new prices? Because I have not been able to find them listed for anywhere near that around Ottawa. Maybe I need to order online..

Oh and my speakers are about 8 feet from my listening position.
:-)
Thanks again!

Unfortunately the Girlfriend has vetoed floorstanders. Apparently they don't go with the decor.

Apparently, these monitors are dynamite and can fill a large room:

They just got StereoMojo small speaker award for 2010 and they are, usually, right on with their assessments.
