Hi
Was wondering if there would be any interest in a new Chrome or Metal cassette. These would not be NOS. We are trying to develope these cassettes. We are still in the experimental stage. These cassettes would be somewhat cheaper than the NOS you get off ebay. They will be notched and everything. Just one question how much would you pay for a good Chrome or Metal tape.
Thanks
Larry

personally, I wouldn't be interested in any form of cassette tapes!
In my opinion they are an inferior medium compared to reel to reel.

I think there would be more of an interest with reel to reel, just my opinion, others maybe interested in cassettes.

You should set this up as a poll question to gauge level of interest.

Hi Larry,

First of all I want to congratulate on contemplating to do this ardous task.

As I can tell, the cassette market is alive and well only for duplication business and there Chinese rule with the lowest supply prices.

I guestimate that total audiophile market interested in premium chrome/metal is
less than 1,000,000 users worldwide and drying up. Even with internet, logistics of sale
could present problem, with shipping costing more than the product itself.

IMHO, regular Type II is not worth the effort, there is lot of regular TypeII floating around for $2-$3 Premium TypeII is a way to go. By premium TypeII I mean tape that can match TDK SA-X

I guess there is a huge leap in technology of plastics since the 80s and that today it could be possible to create antivibration shell that would cost pennies and match Sony's ceramic shells. Perhaps that is something you could do first, create no-nonsense shell and offer it for sale to those who sell duplication tapes.

Once you have volume and reputation, you can start filling shells with premium Type II tape
or metal. In the meantime, stock up on metal pancakes wherever you could find them.

The price I would pay? $3-4 for premium Type II C-90, $10 premium Metal C-90

(premium metal = matching tdk MA-X or maxell MX-S)

Good luck !!!

The Type IIs will be premium tapes. The Metal is Maxell. It was bought when Maxell quit making tapes. Good shells are a problem. Our Chromes That I just tried were equal to Fuji DRII. I wasn't happy. We have bought some other stock. I would like a Type II to compete with a Denon HD-8. Which is my favotite tape. We know there is a very small niche out there for cassettes. My partner is one of the duplicator businesses but is not out of China. The shell we are looking at are made in the U.S.
As far as R2R there are already manu. out there making new tape.
Thanks
Larry

Hi, Larry. Try this.

New Topic
Type in subject line the pertinent info (ie Cassette)
Type info in the message body info per usual (ie what you already listed in this post)
Scroll down to “Poll Creation”
Type in your poll question (ie would you buy new Chrome or Metal cassette and how much $ if so)
In the poll options section this is where you list the poll choices that users select.
Options for users allows for multiple choices
