It features a large RAM buffer, uses no PLL clocks and should be largely immune from the effects of source jitter if it works as advertised.

http://www.naim-audio.com/products/dac.html

Quote:
It overcomes the jitter issues of S/PDIF by reading the data into a “rotating” data RAM buffer independently of its timing signal and reading it out again clocked by one of ten extremely low noise, fixed frequency crystal sine-wave oscillators. In terms of system topology, the DAC’s rotating memory is analogous to a rotating CD feeding raw data to be re-clocked. The rate at which the memory fills and empties is controlled by the DAC automatically selecting the oscillator that matches the average incoming clock frequency. The data entering the downstream digital filtering and DAC chips is then completely isolated from the incoming S/PDIF jitter.

Looks very impressive.

Further info

http://www.whathifi.com/News/Naim-launc ... tal-input/

Quote:
DAC not only has eight digital inputs – four optical, two on BNC connections and a pair of conventional phono inputs – but can also take music digitally from iPods, and control either the Apple players or USB memory devices using its front-panel controls.

The DAC is also able to take digital signals from any Apple iPod of 5th generation or later, including the iPod Touch and iPhone: it's passed all internal and first stage Apple approvals, and the company expects final approval from Apple in the next few weeks.

That will make it the world's first Apple authenticated high-end DAC.

Of note: Uses older PCM1704K chipset. Hmmmmm.

Sounds like cPlay, current buffer 32, latency 33 at 24/96 using tiny buffer and advanced ram allocation. T.

I wonder if they are doing this with separate crystals? I would hope (expect) so.
