Well picked up couple pair of Polk Audio Monitor series book shelf sized speakers.
The bigger pair has 6.5 inch woofer , 6.5 inch passif , 1 inch silver coil tweeter.
These were still made in USA .
Can find no info about them , any one out there knows about them , pictures on my Web Site.

They sound alot better then they should be , needs sub but darn fine snappy bass a little forward , these are head & shoulders better then the newer pairs have had.

Listening to Christmas music , from my thrift store find....Kinda liked The Spitfire Band , so picked this one has only 4 songs but darn fine sound playing through the Polk.

I need some more of this Big Band type music that is more modern & Redone ....

Simply great listening ...twice through both sides of record now !

Brian

I had the same experience, but with paradigm bookshelves. I bought a pair of paradigm monitor series circa 1980's at a yard sale. The enclosures had been painted black, and were all cracked. I expected crap for sound, but was blown away when I hooked them up. Way better than paradigms new stuff. I think back then, manufacturers had a much tighter control on quality, and performance(being made in-house). Now, almost everything these days is engineered in North America, but made in China, and who knows how they end up sounding when they come back 'on the boat'.
