I got my new modded Lenco today after convincing UPS to leave the packages (3) at the local auto repair shop as they wanted their money before they would release it. I couldn't get back from work in time to pay for it myself so I paid the auto repair place instead who then released it to me (they do this for all UPS coming to town).

I swore I'd never use UPS again but the seller said they were the only ones who would insure the table for the full amount and I really liked the table. They delivered it all right but they charged me an extra $420 for taxes and brokerage fee ($89) on top of the $2500. Stinking taxes.

The table arrived safe but they managed to snap the tonearm wand in two on my AirTech MG-1 tonearm (air bearing). Man, I hate UPS. I guess I'll have to try gluing the wand together (it is cheap plastic). There is an $80 upgrade that replaces this weak point with a better wand material (more rigid). I'll have to save up my pennies for that one. Hopefully, nothing else has been shaken loose.

I guess I'll have to stick with the Thorens for the time being.

Sorry to hear about the wand misfortune, Albert. But that is one gorgeous player.

Save those pennies up quickly because I'm already dying for a performance report.

Life in a small town.

Gorgeous deck, Albert. How did the UPS f*cks manage to break the arm? :x

You're putting a claim in, right? For about....oh.....at least $89?

That's a beauty.

So the plinth is custom made, the table is vintage Lenco. Where is the arm from and how did you come to choose this combo?

What about carts?

Thanks guys. I am still trying to get the kinks out of my back from lifting a 80 lb table out of a box of popcorn!

I should put in a claim for the snapped standard slide arm wand ($150). The box looked in good shape and the tonearm wand was in a piece of foam rubber surrounded by popcorn. They must of really thrown the box hard (against a wall?) to snap it. Meat heads.

I chose this table because I liked its' looks and wanted to try out a linear arm with air bearing. I heard that AirTech made a good one so I thought I'd give it a try. The included cartridge is a Denon DL-103 with 30 hrs on it. It has an output of 0.3 mV and has an impedence of 40 kohms so it should work well with my audio research ph3 phono amp which can handle an input as low as 0.25 mV and is set for a 47 kohm load.

Now I just have to crazy glue the wand back together.

Oh, and the photo is from the original seller on audiogon, not mine. She looks the same in person, though!

Great table!
Get a step-up for the Denon, even with the PH3.....so you can hear the real thing!

Albert, the DL 103 is 40 ohms, not 40k. The loading should be around 100 ohms. Just wanted to clarify.

From what I've heard regarding linear trackers, you're in for a treat.

Oops, thanks ripblade. Your right! I hope the impedence mismatch won't be a problem. I can always get the resistor kit from Audio Research and solder in a replacement 100 ohm resistor for the 47 kohms one.

Libor, I'm hoping that the output of the Ph3 will be enough with 54 dB of gain that I won't need a step up transformer. The Threshold T3 preamp it is hooked to is also very quiet so I should be able to crank it up as well. Geez, I can't wait!

You will very likely not be hearing what the Denon is capable of with 54 db of gain. You want to be much closer to the 60 db mark. With low output MC's being 5-6 db short can absolutely kill the dynamics.

I believe that UPS insurance does not cover damage on anything that is not brand new in original packaging. They only cover loss unless you take White Glove which can be done by purchasing $5000 worth of insurance. Then it is handled by hand 100% of the way and I think, but am not 100% certain they cover damage.

Sorry to hear the bad news Albert, but I guess in reality this was the best thing UPS could have broken.

Hope you get it up and running soon.

Cheers!
