Can anyone please recommend me good reputable sources/stores to buy a Weiss DAC2?

Thanks.

Audio Twk: just curious, have you heard this DAC? if yes, what did you compare it to and what are your impressions?

I do believe My Kind of Music in Toronto, is an authorized dealer of Weiss products.

They are located in central Toronto...(Parking can be a bit of a challenge depending on time of day)

Oh yes, regarding performance, one of the very best.

The other DACs in my short list are Linn Akurate DS and Ayre QB9. Heard them although not side by side. IMO the Akurate has a very neutral well controlled and defined presentation, no particular highlights across the band just smooth and easy. The Qb9 is very detailed and highlights the upper register more than the other. The DAC2 fits more in between the two with a little midband emphasis, very easy to listen to.

Yes, John is a nice fellow. Had no clue he carries them. Seems most of the dealers don't list them in their site (that's why I kinda ask for help here). Thanks for pointing that out.

At this level of converter you owe it to yourself to also check out offerings from DAD, Prism, Pacific Microsonics, Metric Halo, Mytek, DCS, EMM Labs, Apogee, Lavry, Grimm and Forsell. The used market may be your best friend with many of these though.

The DAD AX24 is the best I have ever heard but when you are talking about this level of the converter it really boils down to personal preference as all of the above offerings are used in recording studios worldwide.

Thanks for the list Pneumonic. The Lavry, Apogee and the EMM labs were considered in my search. The DAD is used in Telarc's recordings, is there anywhere I could listen to this unit in Toronto?

Excel Stereo - talk with Lawrence, great guy to deal with.

He's technically very knowledgable as well since he also does repairs and modifications.

If you're considering pro audio DACs, I'd add the Universal Audio 2192 to your list (street price around CDN$3500). The analogue output stage consists of discrete transistors rather than the usual off-the-shelf opamps. It's also an ADC and a master clock.

Indeed, Joel.

The UA is a VERY worthwhile DAC to check out. And supremely versatile too in addition to apparently being state of the art sounding.

Also add Cranesong and Prismsound to the list. I listened to a Hedd 192 at a studio this past weekend and wow ........

Same here. Lawrence is a pleasure to deal with. I am really enjoying the DAC 2 in my audio set up.
