Yup, he is right, light is not that picky. :-)

The toslink cable is the thinnest thing I've ever seen. They caution about bending it.
The other cables are much more "robust".
Having said that I tried it today and it works.
As for the Vizio soundbar, it's a pip. Well worth it's asking price.

It's digital -- of course it works.

Robust is nice only if you are plugging and unplugging *a lot*.

Doesn't surprise me at all. Just this morning my STB froze twice. :evil:

Take it back. There's really not much you can do. I know people that go through STB monthly.
Oddly enough I know a couple people that have NEVER had an issue. It's a crap shoot, emphasis on crap.

Intermittent boards components inside
its odd
Nextbox has external power supply block now so maybe cool down a bit on newer box or interference reduced

My parents had 3 receivers die, 2 HDMI boards and one older non HDMI video board all within 2 months.

When I went to visit I investigated and found that a storage room in their basement was on the same circuit as the stereo and they had added a large dehumidifier. We moved the dehumidifier to another circuit, no issue since.

Surge protectors weren't much protection from too little power.

HDMI is relatively fragile in that it doesn't take much to make them screw up.
Heat, voltage surges, hot swapping cables, interference from other electronic devices all can cause HDMI failure. In the simplest possible terms HDMI is a severely flawed standard.
Since we have little choice in the matter all you can do is buy the longest extended warranty possible and get friendly with your repair technician. You'll be seeing a lot of each other.

I see this thread keep coming up over the months. this died, that died, another died...
I feel for those of you with these issues. Been using the first and only 5.1 I ever bought still for... 10 years? Inexpensive Yamaha. it just keeps going.
the only weird issue ever is that as it gets warmer, it gets a bit louder......or my ears get better... I mean, ya, electronics need a warm up to some degree, but compared to all my vintage 2 ch... the 5.1 is the only thing that really gets noticable.
Hope my Sony 900E lasts as long. Anyone need a 165 pound Panasonic 34" flat CRT? still works... come get it... please.... :shock:

My MRX310 " literally " went up in smoke last week. 2 1/2 years old. That being said, even though I couldn't find the receipt they told me to ship to them for repair under warranty. Just checked the tracking and they received it yesterday so here's hoping....oh, and kudos to Anthem as they could have told me to go pound salt as I didn't have prove of purchase.

One of the most common problem with new Tech, and aging equipment is HDCP issues, which in my opinion are the main root of several issues noted in this thread.

This link might help to understand and hopefully provide solutions or workarounds to help you.
Remember Firmware updates and upgrading your HDMI cables can help as well.

Have been using my Marantz SR 6007 7.2 for 8 yrs. now strictly through HDMI and have never had an issue.

Bought a Marantz SR-5010 and within 2 weeks one of the rear channel died. Now I think I had this replacement receiver for the last 1 /1/2 years and quite frankly I "had" no hope that it will survive a long time. I said that I had no hope only because it used to run extremely hot to the touch and it seems that it is no longer running as hot. Could it have been fixed by one of the software upgrade?

On the subject of HDMI I have never experienced problems like the OP but we have also left Rogers Cable to Bell and the switch was simply wonderful in terms of quality of pictures. We do have a constant problem however with the hand shake with HDMI ARC. It seems that Sony is aware of this with our 4K 900 series Sony TV. The sound cuts out when we try to listen to Stingray music channel but rather than trying to solve it I am using an old tablet with the Stingray App.

I suspect the OP will still have issues with frying video boards as I would blame the problem on a ground issue that is still persistent.
