My experience (and others) has consistently shown balanced connections to be more musical. Just thought I'd counter your unsubstantiated and highly biased opinion with my own.[/quote]

" Just thought I'd counter your unsubstantiated and highly biased opinion with my own" (Touche' ! )

...too funny. Actually, that would be mine and countless others who report such things. Nice try.

Balanced are quieter. That might translate to more musical if more information is revealed.

Fair enough. The only way for a reliable subjective impression is to listen to both, with numerous amps/pre-amps and loudspeakers as was routinely explored at Allied Hi-Fi between 1999-2005.

As I mentioned, it was the 'collective' impression (as in dozens of listener's) that SE sounds more natural, fluid and expressive on virtually all brands we had available; new and trade-in gear. Surprisingly, this was the case/consensus using true fully-differential gear !

Was listening blind or was it known if SE or BAL connections were being used?

Oh, most definitely blind; except for the "switcher". And then switcher sat and listened.

The differences were obvious as near day/night -no struggling to hear. We were all quite fascinated.

I have used both balanced and unbalanced XLO Signature cables, so, 2 identical cables except for different terminations. Both on the same source and amp, and both only a click away from each other on the source selector.

I have used them on 3 separate integrateds, and every time, I have found the XLR to be more enjoyable.
