Hi all, setting up my HT I'm trying to figure out what amp best suits the AcouPower 18s. They're rated for approx 2000-2500wrms, single 6 ohm voice coil. Can't seem to find much on the market. Thought about 2 Inuke 6000s, but from what I can tell on the specs they're not bridgeable at 8 ohms or 4 ohms. And at the end of ghe day will only met me around 1500wrms at this resistance. Some help?

Which XLS?

Rule of thumb, when asking for advice on equipment let everyone know your budget.

Need it to be 8 ohms. Unless I run them bridges at 4 ohms.

Budget, not a fortune. Just bought a new house so limited.

used qsc mx 2000a

$400-500us,

650 watts rms continuous per channel, into 4 ohms

or two of them... one per channel, bridged mono, 1300 watts clean, all day long, into 8 ohms.

built for all day abuse.

easy to repair, well known, easy to get another if one goes down, without paying a premium. like shooting fish in a barrel.

I've installed them, maintained them, repaired them, rebuilt them into audiophile versions, the whole works. they age like anything else, so choose ones that look clean and low hour.

In such a case they can then go for many years without needing attention. To add they are built to blow their gaskets (when they suffer a nasty fault- like blown and shorted output devices) in a way that does not endanger the speakers connected to them, or at least give the drivers a chance of surviving. No other output topology can pull this stunt off, IME and IMO.

They are not high end audiophile anything, but in the pro realm of loud and on fire, all day long, every day... they are difficult to beat on all fronts. Which makes for a great 'house on fire' sub amplifier.

Also consider the qsc mx 2500a and the x-3000a. The 3000a is 1200W per channel continuous, into 4 ohms. Also widely available as 'pulled' amplifiers due to the conventional power supplies, and the traveling roadshows dumped the heavy amplifiers as soon as they could- for amplifiers 25 lbs lighter (class d), so these things nearly grow on trees..

Behringer is probably a bad idea.

Sorry, mobile isn't always the friendliest. What do the Crown 6002 usually go for used? I see new they're 1,999 UsD.

And why is Behringer a bad idea?

If you are looking for cheap and cheerful - and it is only to power your subs - then you might want to check out Yorkville Sound. They make sound reinforcement speakers/subs/amplifiers. Think of them as the poor man's alternative to Yamaha Pro. They are a Canadian company. I used to use them a lot when I ran a bunch of mobile units.

Anyways - they have amps at very reasonable prices - for example they have the PX1700 which you can usually pick up for the 500'ish range new. Stable to 2 ohms and up to 1700 watts in mono.

Consider the levels of cooling fan noise associated with pro power amps if they are going to be in the same room as your other gear and speakers.
