There's a local technician how says he can take an old Alesis RA300 and with a few mods make it perform better than the most expensive amps. Does this sound credible? Has anyone tried this? Is this just a way to suck money out of my pocket? I borrowed one and it sounds credibly good, maybe a little light in the bass but great detail. Neutral would be the best description, not a hugely engaging sound but not terrible either.

CAM member ykim8140 uses the re-engineered Alesis RA-300. The amp replaced Krell KSA-200S he had been using. PM him may be an idea to know his opinion about the amp.

Hi.

This great is amp.
Very Calm without any aggressiveness.
Great definition and nice high.

Comparing to my Krell KSA 200s which was sold, this unit is much better performer in every aspects as well as super convenience in actually unit weight.

I currently have AR VT130, however RA300 is winner so far. VT130 is great tube amp for sure, but I am personally liking solid state better.

Krell and AR is more than 3K used whereas RA300 is 800 with nicely modified unit. You have nothing to lose with it.
Actually those two Krell and AR is worthy more 10k in current value.

This amp is great performer in my HT set as well. It makes great definition with good sound stage.
I love it sooo much.
