Pass Labs DIY 1B buffer preamp at $1000 (assembled) is compared to a Concert Fidelity CF-080 Ultra High End line stage preamp at the crazy price at $18000 !! http://www.enjoythemusic.com/magazine/equipment/0708/first_watt_b1_preamplifier.htm , makes me say >>Get the f*** outta here<< like Axel Foley said in the 'Beverly Hills Cop' (1984) movie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TL6NY5lfBAg

Aikido DIY preamp http://glass-ware.stores.yahoo.net/index.html

'tubes4hifi' was amazed about the Aikido DIY preamp, absolutely the best tube preamp 'tubes4hifi' ever heard, as good as the $5000 expensive Convergent SL1 http://www.diytube.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2020&start=15

I would assume the sound signature of the YBA would be more present with the pre amp than the power amp??
Is that correct??

This Aikido DIY preamp sounds very highly regarded
But don't seem to come up for sale very often and I definitely don't have the skill to tackle a kit :(

I'd recommend a Don Sachs Model 1 preamp: http://www.dsachsconsulting.com/custom%20line%20stage.html

It's a 6SN7 based preamp. Don custom builds them, so you have a lot of options when ordering.

Don is based in Nelson, BC and is a great guy to talk audio with!

Lab 12 makes one of the best tube preamps for very little money. Put it up against your average $10,000 one to see...

I had a CJ Tube pre with a YBA 2 amp--worked quite nice. Then Picked up a CJ MV60 Tube amp and ran it off a YBA 2 Pre. More changes after that..ended up with my keeper system YBA 1 amp with YBA 2 pre (and YBA 1 CD). I did have a bit of work done to the YBA pre as I found the dual volume controls did not track very well--went to a high quality single VC and it works and sounds even more magical. You should be able to find a very nice YBA pre in your budget.

which CJ preamp? i have considered Cj with my YBA gear

Classic which I had upgraded to SE version

Now there's something interesting! Are those USD or CAD prices?

What are some of the differences using a 6922 et al. vs 6SN7 tube for a preamp?

This is Audio Research's most annoying thing: no chance of tube rolling with their 6H30 tube type.

Don quotes in USD.

No idea what the difference is between a 9622 vs 6SN7? I suspect it has a more to do with how the designer has built their circuit?
