How true  . When ever I have company over I always tell them that placing a drink on my speakers will guarantee a free trip to the dentist to replace the teeth I knock out!

A meme (/ˈmiːm/ MEEM) is an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture — often with the aim of conveying a particular phenomenon, theme, or meaning represented by the meme.[1] A meme acts as a unit for carrying cultural ideas, symbols, or practices, that can be transmitted from one mind to another through writing, speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena with a mimicked theme. Supporters of the concept regard memes as cultural analogues to genes in that they self-replicate, mutate, and respond to selective pressures.[2
The word meme is a neologism coined by Richard Dawkins.[8] It originated from Dawkins' 1976 book The Selfish Gene. Dawkins's own position is somewhat ambiguous: he welcomed N. K. Humphrey's suggestion that "memes should be considered as living structures, not just metaphorically"[9] and proposed to regard memes as "physically residing in the brain".[10] Later, he argued that his original intentions, presumably before his approval of Humphrey's opinion, had been simpler.[11] At the New Directors' Showcase 2013 in Cannes, Dawkins' opinion on memetics was deliberately ambiguous.[12]

...I think you meant something completely different.

I think that's exactly what the op meant. Perhaps you are disappointed that the actual substance of memes is unworthy of all that intellectualizing.

I've never really understood just what a meme is, and I've looked up the definition several times, but I'm pretty sure that old Stereophile funniest aren't memes.
They're just funny. In the '80's I used to cut them out and stick them in files, books, anywhere, and sometimes I run across one and it makes me smile, but that doesn't make it a meme.
Could be wrong, though, young'uns are always redefining words.

.....yep.. essentially & in it's simplest form, an idea, vid, catchphrase, cartoon or pic. that someone finds both culturally relevant & more or less humorous, and is motivated to share it with the world over social media.....or Najibs thread.....or ?

Good topic: Not a Meme per se - but a classic nonetheless:
