I have a large family room opening into a kitchen and the rest of the main floor. I am using two subwoofers in this room; a Tannoy TS2.10 and a Dayton Audio Sub 1200. While I am happy with both, I am wondering about whether one ballsier sub such as an Energy S12.3 or PSB Subsonic 6i to replace the Dayton would energize the room more. I am on a limited budget and I have seen both these subs in the $200 range. The only thing that scares me off is that both subs are from the mid 2000s and I am worried about amplifier failure, especially with the BASH amp in the PSB. The Dayton is only a couple of years old. Regarding the possibility of selling both subs for one potent one, I have limited space under a shelf in the front of the room where the TV and three front speakers are located and anything bigger than the Tannoy will not fit. So I would rather stick with the Tannoy and possibly add something along the lines of the Energy or PSB on the rear wall beside the couch. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Bass at the listening position is directly related to the room effects, more subs = better response through the room.
Add subs...don't take away.

You can always bypass the internal amp if it dies with one of the many external sub amps.

Even with subs usually ya get what ya pay for...

Imo it's a side step.
