Hi All,

So... I posted a topic about speaker cable terminations [Spades vs. Bananas] in regards to a design I'm working on, but that was more a brain fart than a brain storm. I realize that it would be easier to leave the cable terminations bare until an order came in, then put the ends on to suit the individual needs of the end user  [the terminations wouldn't take nearly as long as power cable terminations take].
That said, I would still like to know what peoples preferences are in order to make sure I have the right quantities and types of terminations on hand, so please feel free to continue to share your thoughts about that [either on this post, or on the other one in the Amp section of the forums - there is a note in the other post about the type of Bananas I would use that you may want to check out before sharing your thoughts about them].

This post is about trying to decide on a "default" length, and your thoughts on that.
I'm thinking 8' is a happy medium/minimum.
Thoughts?

As popular as the forums are, they may not give you a true answer as to what is most commonly used and at what length. You should develop a procedure that will allow quick assembly on a per order basis. One of the goals with any cable manufacture is to mitigate waste. You do not want a surplus of pre-built lengths only to discover another length is more commonly requested.

Also - don’t know if you are aware, but AudioQuest also has a line of cable branded “NRG”.

Cut to order, terminate to order.
Quote prices for 8 and 12 foot lengths.
KISS. My motto.

Cheers,
Alec

I know, but my company name is actually my initials [Nawaz Rakim Ghani]. I can't help it if my name is a perfect fit for what I do!

:D Fair enough. Just making an observation. Another member in your other thread about connectors also found the AudioQuest NRG line when Googling your company name.

I want to keep it simple, but I can be a little stupid. :P
The construction of the cable [at least how I currently have it my head], including cutting 16 lengths of wire, encasing them in a dielectric material, and wrapping everything with insulation and finishing jackets, would take a stupid amount of time. By comparison, however, termination is a breeze [time-wise], especially compared to my power cables.
As such, if I could have a few "common" length cables constructed that just need to be terminated, I could save on turn-around time. Based on the poll results and comments so far though [thanks again, you guys are GREAT :!: ], it seems common is not very common.
Perhaps I'm over-thinking this though - it wouldn't be the first time [read: I can be a little stupid].
Cheers!

Nawaz

That darn AudioQuest! [that's fake outrage, by the way]
As a side note, please know that it's not vanity at work when I mention my company name in my ads and posts. I'm just trying to get as much "out there" with NRG Custom Cables "attached" to it to try and distinguish myself [I'm probably pi_ _ing in to the wind though].

So, in the vain of a very wise man by the name of Mr. Homer J. Simpson, marketing genius, I give you:

NRG Custom Cables, that's the name
That name again is NRG Custom Cables

[Now you've got the "Mr. Plow" jingle in your head - you're welcome]

How will your cables differ from the zillion others out there?

FWIW, I run 1 meter speaker cables, as my mono-blocks sit on the floor behind the speakers...
The long wires, are the balanced interconnects back to the pre-amp.

Hi Nawaz, I selected 6ft. but, that's for the living room system and a 6ft. cable works for the time being. However, my preference would be 8ft. with spades.

The majority that have voted have their speakers 20' apart? Or is that left and right together?

Or each speaker is 10’ with slack from their amplifier

Most rooms, not all are a max of 12' wide (standard carpet width) by whatever length.

Therefore 12/2=6...plus some slack to the amp.

10' each should do the trick...

Ohms

As someone who has been involved in manufacturing for about 20 years +, all I can say is that no matter what you stock, people will want some other size. It's just the nature of it...
