I found an excessive bass response out of my speakers on a second system when I hooked up a little tube amp to them. I have had probably a half doz different amps hooked up to this system and this is the first time this has happened. source and speaker, placement etc. are the same.
Moved the amp to the other system and no problem with the bass at all.
perhaps the answer is in the amp not being able to drive the speakers properly, however both sets have very similar specs.

Could be the room itself. Are you using any acoustic treatments in the room? Bass traps in the corners, diffusers on the wall behind your listening position (if applicable), and absorption or diffusion on the side walls (if applicable) will all make an enormous difference to the tonal balance you hear.

Are these floor standing speakers? If so, spike them to the floor. This gets them off the floor, but also keeps them from moving due to the reaction force against the movement of the drivers (particularly the bass drivers). I recently implemented a cheap but very effective DIY spiking method for my Klipsch Cornwalls...29 cent dowel screws from Home Depot. Put one end in my cordless drill and drove the other end into the bottom of the speaker riser. The screw itself is the spike. Worked like a charm. Bass is better defined, and the stereo image is perfectly focused. Oh and don't use floor protectors under the spikes...they move on the floor!! Totally defeats the purpose.
