I have a pair of Signet SL 266 that I bought in Kitchener in the mid 90's. Their sound is amazing. They must be quite rare as I have searched online a few times to get more information about them but nothing comes up for the SL 266.

Signet is not the brand, it is the model series of speakers made by AudioSphere Research

Actually the signets are a real brand in this case.

Vifa/seas woofers and vifa seas tweeters. (can't remember which )1" mdf face plates on most/all cabinets.

that floorstander is probably a $1800+ speaker from the mid-early 90's.

the carts from them are mildly customed A-T in origin.

eg, this one has a gold plated boron cantilever, the AM50s. Near that of an at-160ml:

Ah. here it is, found at the bottom of a sterophile review:

Signet division of Audio-Technica US, Inc.

Totally different company Teo. The Signet in question IS a Canadian made speaker made by AudioSphere Research (see attached photo). The Japanese made Signet was indeed a totally different company; even the logos were different enough to be considered copywrite infringement..

I'm not sure if these were listed, but Newform Research ribbon speakers have been around for a while, they are made in Ontario.

What about Washington Labs amde on Heritage Drive in Markham. Own a set with Vifa D19 tweeters and Jensen Woofers. Walnut top and base plate. rear ported.

AudioSphere Research would be known best for their Dalhquist, Signet and Vivid monster speaker. They also made Profiles, Acoustic Profile, Accusound.

Old manufacturers would be Marsland out of Waterloo, Electrohome out of Waterloo, Clairtone out of N.S.
Have a great day. We Canucks know how to make awesome speakers. Happy 150 to all.

Missed us, we were mentioned on the 1st page, and are still here. http://www.planet10-hifi.com/

Website needs a good revision.

Our most popular speaker is a flat-pak kit for the middle size one. As well as flat-paks, we sell EnABLed full-range drivers & finished loudspeakers.

Hey All - Heard there was a really great small Manufacture of Speakers in Newfoundland - but I don't remember their name
they did a lot of research at the Canadian Reseach Center in Ottawa

The CRC yielded a large number of quality Canadian manufacturers, mostly in Ontario.

The Newfie manufacturer is mentioned earlier in this thread. http://areaudio.com/areaudio/ (watch out the website has an annoying movie in it that you can’t stop)

Audiosphere Research also made a top of the line speaker called Post, looked similar to the Washington Labs with the wood top and front kick plate. The Vivid 18T Thunder were a monster and sell for $500 +, made for Leons by Audiosphere.
