You really think they put an effort to set up their video systems?

haha, good point, I don't think they're ISF cerfitied, but they get a lot of floor space

Years ago you would go into any store like FS or BB and not expect to see any displays properly set up. I don't know about the stores in anybody else's area but the FS close to me does a very good job, for the most part, of setting up their video displays. I think some of this may have to do with the fact that it is much easier to do so now than it used to be, what with Blu-Ray and high def broadcasts, it isn't that difficult, short of an ISF calibration to make the modern displays of today look good.

HOLY CRAP!!! I knew that BB had the lower end, non-electrostatics in certain premium locations (Magnolia) but not these 2 models. The Vistas are selling at the same price as they do at authorized dealers ($2649 each, $5298 a pair) but the sopurces are half the normal price at $1499 a PAIR!!!! Either is it a pricing mistake and they mean each or one incredible bargain. From what I have been able to see, the speakers will not be available in their retail stores, only on-line.

PS: Just got off the phone with an authorized ML dealer and seems that the Vistas are being discontinued and liquidated and the black Sources are also being doiscontinued; only the Cherry ones which are not available at FS will remain available, so this is probably just a one shot deal on these.

I also noticed that this was a great deal...I am tempted to buy a set as I have never owned a set of Martin Logans. Wouldn't you be able to fetch almost the same price if you resold them?

If you can actually get a pair of ML Sources at $1499, them JUMP on them; heck at that price I may buy a second pair myself!!! They are supposed to retail for $2798 a pair. The FS Web site clearly indicates that this is the price for 2 speakers which is probably pissing off authorized ML dealers and the Canadian distributor to no end.

I remember visiting my brother in Texas and the Best Buy there had bang & alufsen, starting price was $12,000. They even had a floor model playing music. I had visions of kids pushing in the dust caps.

Best Buy Geek Squad does "ISF calibration".

That was probably one of their higher end Magnolia stores.

When I bought my puritys they were $3200/pr and the Source were 2K /pair.

1499 is a killer deal, but Ive never seen them at more than 2000/pr

Canadian Retail price on the Sources went up twice in 08, first to $2400 a pair and then to $2800 a pair. They were originally $2K a pair in the US but the current price is at $2195US (shipping them up here is a real killer due to the huge size of the boxes, you could ship 8 to 10 large Totems in the same space)

Martin Logan shifted to big box chains in the U.S quite a long time ago - about 2 years now. Circuit City I believe. The market has been down in audio for quite awhile now and a fair bit before the Recession was as hard hitting as it is now. Totem is all but gone from upscale boutiques in the west and went into the big box chain A&B Sound. They simply don't sell. ML is also a difficult sell because of space size and positioning requirements and they had serious trouble selling. I liked the very big ML's Odyssey, Prodigy, and Statement but their small Aerius i was definitely not my cup of tea (putting it as diplomatically as I possibly can) for $3k+ they wanted for them. The sad thing is that they need more than crap receivers and rubbish Blu ray machines playing CD's on them. And the sad thing is that once companies go to these big box chains high end dealers will drop them in droves - they can't compete on price. And high end dealers tend not to want to take the company back if ML does not succeed in Future Shop. There is a "perception" of name brand cachet (not always objective I should add) that if it's sold at FS or BB it's mid-fi or junk. FS will put a ton of pressure on ML if the speakers don't sell well which will cause ML to cut corners. Polk managed to stay in business going to FS because they were on the brink of bankruptcy. FS may save ML - but the question is in a few years will ML be the same caliber they once were. Or in a few years will ML be another NHT, Adire Audio, or Hovland?

just got off the FS website and cut and pasted the two following advertised notations:

- Martin Logan Vista Xstat Floor Standing Speakers - Cherry

- More Information

Please Note: This product is sold as a single unit. If you wish to purchase a pair, add 2 units to your cart.

at 2649.99 each... well not such a bargain. What's up with selling one speaker at a time anyway :?

FS always sell speakers one at a time instead of in a pair for some reasons...

But, the description of the "Source" doesn't have that statement... wonder if it is something worth arguing for?

It also sounds like they are carrying ML stuffs other than these two: http://www.futureshop.ca/search/searchresult.asp?logon=&langid=EN&search=KWS
