I decided to replace my Lowe HF-150 shortwave radio with an internet radio as there are so many more stations and higher quality as well streamed from the internet. Parts Connexion had a sale on the Tangent Quattro II radio ($159.99) so I thought I would give it a try.

It arrived today with very good packaging and it looks great. I like the retro look of the walnut veneer over rounded edges, it looks like a 40's or 50's radio. My only complaint is the knobs and push buttons are cheap plastic instead of metal. Otherwise it is very sharp looking.

After 5 minutes of trying to remember my wifi password the radio connected to my internet without a hitch and now I have over 10,000 stations to browse for the rest of my life. The audio is surprisingly good from a 3" speaker on top with a 5w amp. It even has a port on the back. The bass is actually punchy (for a table top radio), the mids are full and the highs are okay (a little rolled off). Having the speaker on top has the highs beaming up to the ceiling so that might have something to do with it. FM is kind of poor with a muffled sound but I have a tuner in my bedroom system anyway so that isn't really a problem.

Initial impressions is that I really like this little desk top radio and I can even use it as an alarm clock if I had to. Merry Christmas!

I just ordered one last night - can hardly wait! Will replace our old Boston Acoustics Solo.

So if FM sounds not so good - just go to the internet stream for the same station! That's the plan for our occasional AM needs (for some reason my wife likes some AM stations).

Argh. Arrived fast in undamaged packaging, looks good but doesn't work... goes to "Initialising Network" and sits there forever. Tried a wired Ethernet with no luck, link lights don't even come on.

Now dealing with Parts Connexion for repair/replacement/whatever. Disappointing.

Mine has good sound and works well but I find it annoying to change the alarm. I have to turn it on and wait for my internet radio station to connect before I can change anything. I looked at the manual and I don't think I'm missing anything. I did have trouble at first getting it to connect to my wireless network but I don't think it was the radio. It is reliable with the Linksys router I have now.

Parts Connexion came through with a replacement that they pre-tested at their end. Works fine now. Sounds surprisingly good. Knows about 22,000 internet radio stations. The display is a bit small for sleep-fogged eyes. Changing settings is easy (one big knob, Select button, Back button) but can be tedious. Looks and feels like good quality construction. I like it!
