Another thread here mentioned the MD-90's brass flywheel tuner upgrade, which got me wondering if it was worth it? Does it just affect how the tuner feels when moving from station to station, or is there any other benefit? I don't see why there would be an audible difference, or how it would make it easier to tune in a station, but can see it feeling better than the multi-turn pot. Anybody with before/after experience?

Cheers, Dave

It is all about feel. Like style of headphones or fountain pens, it is purely about personal taste. I like the flywheel better because you can move across the dial faster and the "feel" of knob. I compared this to new style tuning knob and did not like it. However, it's up to you to decide if it is worth the cost of the change.

Hi Dave,
Vinyl Guy is absolutely correct. The upgrade doesn't affect anything other than the feel.

I guess it comes down to how much you would appreciate the change in feel. You are the one that has to look at it every day, and the one who operates it. Is the modification worth it to you? Personally, I would rather have the flywheel feel over the stock feel.

I have the gyro upgrade on my ft-101a.
I love it. Give it a spin and watch those numbers fly!

Seriously though, it is nice.
