Respectfully, the GT ref sub platter is the second best upgrade. A motor isolation system is the best upgrade. Lim or other, just make an incredible improvement.

I actually contacted SRM Tech about their silent base and read the online post of someone in Montréal who did it. It is definitely something to do in the future. Thank you.

Hi,

Another angle. Rega dealers don't stress this anymore but in the original Rega literature regarding set-up they strongly suggested getting a wall-mounted TT shelf for their products. This reduces vibrational feed-back and other spurious associated live frequency resonances that can afflict any good arm. Good isolation feet will help but wall mounting a shelf for non-suspended chassis TT's is better.

Cheers,
David Neice

I considered this from the get go. I invested on a Bello Audio Tower before I even purchased my equipment. I don't like the idea of drilling holes on my wall.

I also had my brother cut me a 3/4" MDF that he painted gloss black like my table and I have them on vibrapod cones underneath the TT. A lot cheaper than buying a premade isolation platform.

Have you considered any type of VTA adjustment.
You mentioned earlier you were using an achromat from Funk Firm.
Just wondered how you compensated for the difference in tracking angle?

I didn't adjust the VTA.

I changed the stock felt mat with a 3mm achromat.

Thank you to all of you who replied.

Much appreciated.

I will defer on the subplatter upgrade for now since data is still very scarce regarding new Regas and subplatter upgrades. My research continues.

I will go hunt myself down a set of new speakers in the meantime.

I forgot to mention, I have the GT ref sub platter on my highly modded rp6. It does make a nice improvemnt, mostly in speed stability and background noise reduction. Def worth doing imho.

Hi. Sorry for the late response.

I will be getting this one now as well.

Looking forward to the subplatter upgrade.

bellapig, i see you are in thornhill as well. i have a spare tangospinner subplatter (not as fancy as the groovetracer, but also cheaper) that you are welcome to try out. PM if you interested. it worked well on my RP40 and also a previously owned P5.

Thank you for the great offer however, I just purchased one here in CAM a couple of hours ago and I’m really busy today. I found the price hard to resist.

I’ll just wait for Yves to deliver.

If you got the deck for nothing, then sure, upgrade.
I used to wonder why my audiophile buddies started with rega, only to move on. I know why now.

Absolutely agree. What you have as a TT is a very solid, capable performer. I would look at the speakers as the next step....you will get way more performance from a speaker upgrade than a platter at this time.

I am investigating on getting a set of Omega Speakers to pair with my Tube Phono Preamp and SET amp.

I will definitely upgrade the speakers.

I suppose that my inquiry is now null and void since I've gotten a GT reference subplatter installed and have been happily listening through several records for a few hours now.

This subplatter is a definite upgrade and not by a small amount either. Everything is much more open now. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of bass that is now apparent and the smoothness of the midrange that is now more engaging.

It was akin to moving up from Elys2 to Exact2 in my experience but much more than that. I honestly cannot fully describe the impact but just to compare.

I love the sound that is coming from a stock 2016 P3 and I lived with it for a few months. However, after the subplatter upgrade that same stock P3 sound is noticeably more compressed, like it won't let go of notes, as opposed to a P3 with a GT subplatter.

I guess the best way to put it, the sound with the GT Ref Subplatter installed has now "matured" to a different level.

So far, CAM Community has been good to me. Thank you all.

Are you using the original glass platter with the new subplatter?
And are you going to change that too?

I’m using the original glass platter with a 3mm achromat for now. My goal is to get a white groovetracer delrin platter later on to finish this build then play around with MC cartridges and SUTs when my Exact2 cartridge die in a few years.

However, my top priority is to get a better set of high efficiency speakers to mate with my set amps.

This turntable is where I wanted it to be at this stage. Loving the sound that is coming out of it.
