Apologies if there's already posts related to this - I did a search, and found none.
I have a Modwright SWP9.0se Phono Stage, and it's stopped working. I've been troubleshooting with Dan of Modwright to no avail. I could ship the unit back to them, but it's terribly expensive to do that, and a hassle. I'd like to find a good local shop - hence this post.
I've already used/tried a dealer who shall remain unnamed, and some shop in North Van near Long and Mcquade when attempting to get a pair of tube amps repaired. Was terribly unimpressed with both - the one guy told me the amps were a poor design and to buy McIntosh instead. A big help that is.
Any suggestions?

Hi Joseph,

I highly recommend and always use Innovative Audio in Surrey for all my tube gear repairs.
First rate service and expertise at very reasonable prices!

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your phono stage. I go to Soundhounds in Victoria to get any service done. It is farther away, but the work that Aaron does there is top notch. If you don't have any luck locally, try shipping it to Soundhounds via Maximum Express. They are a very reasonably priced courier and your item arrives overnight. My preamp shipped from Victoria to Vancouver overnight for $33.00. It was in a big and heavy box.

Dan Wright's preamps are not overly complicated, but unfamiliarity with some of the unusual features of his design can lead to, at best a poor repair, at worst a disaster.
PM me for details. I've been working on Modwrights for a number of years now.

Nice phono stage
My friend, the tech at Innovative can get you going again..week before last I actually had my SWL9.0SE at the shop. hooked up to his just built el84 tube amp..just to take it for a spin with a nice pre.
Albert at Space Tech does nice work too, I know he is a builder of nice sounding gear, he might be into repairs as well.
Wouldn't hurt to send Dan an email as well.

I second the Innovative Audio...they are good, though the wait can be long when they are real busy... as for the Clown who said ModWright was poorly designed and you should buy McIntosh... should be made to sit in a room and listen to Lou Reed's metal machine music for 24 hours through a really bad system...

If you live east of Surrey Classic Sound on Wellington Ave in Chilliwack is a great choice. The tech is very experienced,he builds a very nice tube phono himself and they seem to be nice guys. They totally refurbished a vintage Harmon Kardon Citation set Pre and Power recently for a friend of mine, and did a great job at a very reasonable price. Its not Vancouver but may be worth the drive.

There's a guy on Craig's list in south Vancouver called David Yee. There's been some really unpleasant stuff written about him online that I suspect is because his English isn't very good. He's done several repairs for me and is always very knowledgable, quick, and cheap. He's also a tube specialist, whereas the other guys mentioned aren't. He's so cheap I usually pay more than he's asking. Highly recommended.

If you don't mind driving to Chilliwack, the tech at Classic Sound (Greg) is excellent and very knowledgeable.

hi all:
Sorry for the late reply, been silly busy. Thanks a million for all the responses. I ended up taking the unit across the border to Modwright after all. Their operations manager -Kristen - set me up with the proper customs info - she was great. Dan did the work crazy fast. I can't recommend this company enough wrt their customer service...really great people.
cheers
