Do you have any experience with Audio Research higher preamp offerings? Didn't you use to own the LS17 SE?

About 2 years ago, great preamp for the price. I upgraded to a new BAT VK-33 but in retrospect it was more of a sideways move. I've heard reference series AR gear in other setups but haven't had anything above the LS27 in my room.
How was the LS27 as compare to the LS17? Is it worth the upgrade or should I aim at Ref3?

A write up or shopping list of parts used for that DIY shelf would be much appreciated! Seems pretty straight forward to assemble...
Easy to assemble if you get the drilled holes aligned. Use template to drill the holes on the shelves, guaranteeing alignment.

I am putting another shelves together next week. I'll post the parts list and some pictures.

Very nice system. I am not sure about the sub with active speakers in a nearfield situation. Might not improve what you have now. I have Proac Response D Two speakers in a 30ft by 15ft room with a 36wpc tube amp, and no need for a sub. Tight deep bass down to a usable 40hz and the imaging is perfect. I would not want to mess with a sub, unless deep bass like in rap music or organ or such was critical for me, but is not.

I was getting really lumpy frequency response in my small home office/music room below ~150Hz (even though my room is partially treated with 3 GIK broadband panels and 1 monster bass trap) so I went ahead and jumped on a Paradigm Monitor SUB10 w/ PBK for my desktop system (for crazy cheap on kijiji - $300).

I don't have it all set up yet, but I'm thinking with room gain in my small room that the system should be flat down to 20Hz now and the PBK will help to clean up the low end from 80Hz and down.

Still pretty humble but at least it sounds good and has some WAF now that the new cabinet is in place. No more cables to stare at.

Before pic with the cable rats nest:

Nick, what did you do to achieve your measurements? I’d like to do the same in my space.

Unfortunately I'm having problems with the Paradigm SUB10 so I'm still running with the Dynaudio's running full range (lumpy bass response). The DSP seems to be bricked after installing the latest firmware in the SUB10. I'm dealing with Paradigm on it now. I was hoping that it would clean up the bass in my system crossing over at 80Hz with the sub running with the PBK.

I have 2 GIK Acoustics 242 panels (one on either side of the main listening position a few inches out from the side walls at the first reflection point) and a single GIK Acoustics Monster Bass Trap on the rear wall behind the listening position at the first reflection point. Aside from that, it's all about those Dynaudio BM6A mkII's. Excellent, linear speakers that sound fantastic.

On the plus side, I made some big improvements to my main system!

Added an Esoteric SA-50 SACD Player/DAC and Anthem Statement A2.

Sold my other amp and moved my Cambridge DACMagic Plus with LH Labs Linear Power Supply into my desktop system.

New (to me) Paradigm Reference Tributes replaced a pair of Studio/100 v.4, and I am enjoying them greatly. I've heard most of the Paradigm lineup (except the Persona) and think these are probably one of their best sounding speakers.

Very nice system. Could we have a picture sans grilles?
