Hi,

toby wrote; 'They performed sonically in (this) order from worst to best'.

I believe you, but I also think that bits are bits regardless of the CD's surface or material composition. By 'performed sonically' what do you actually mean? For instance, I think that Ogg Vorbis at 320 VBR is better sonically than say any MP3 or AAC lossy file, but maybe I am just kidding myself because I much prefer open source.

Cheers,
David Neice

CD's are not a digital medium, they are analog. The information stored is not 1's and 0's, it is lands a pits, where the length of these lands and pits correspond to how many 0's and 1' in a row.

How they are manufactured and the chemical make up of these blank CD's can determine how effective the laser is at burning these pits and how accurate the land/pit structure.

Poor blanks can make playback error correction work overtime, and when correcting error's , the final bit's can be inaccurate to the original bits.

In the early days(Yamaha burner), i noticed poor sound quality burning at high speeds, but with later LG drives, i heard good quality burning at high speeds (24X) and perhaps because the new burner was optimized for high speed, i heard poorer quality with lower speed burns with said LG burner.

TOM...
