Hey, I'd never, ever discriminate against Bose just because they make over-priced yet mediocre goods and are now accused of pirating personal info to sell on the open market . . . ah, frack it, I would too and in a NY minute!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning data gathering & manipulation, I just think we should all get used to it.

No, I think we need to be more aware, and understand what the implications of all of this are. As brick and mortar shops close, and big data gets larger, how will we hear of gear from small companies when Harmon has the budget they command? There are times when we allow our shopping data to be collected and used (air miles for example), and times when we don't stop and think about it, when we should. TV's that report our viewing habits, headphones that report our listening habits, heck there's a vibrator that reports duration and intensity settings back to the company.

And one more thought to consider, all of these people say that the data thats shared is anonymous, and the personal ID's are not given. However one recent study showed that cross-correlating data from multiple sources allowed them to identify individuals in something like 60% of the cases, and if a dollar sales amount was one of the data bits, it rose to 90%....

I would discriminate against Bose. See, there, I just did it  In the 70's when I would be in a soundroom listening to various speakers, the Bose were almost always the most inferior product in the room. The design, driver quality etc.. not up to par with what JBL, Altec, B&W, Kef etc.. were producing. Even some cottage country speaker manufacturers were producing superior products. They were going after a different market. Bose = Clever Marketing. They are experts at marketing their products but that doesn't mean they are worthy of comparison with most other audio companies. These days, their computer desktop speakers are ok, as are some of their headphones. The Bose Wave Radio is what it is. I'm referring more to the their 70's output when they built their reputation.

Anyone worried about electronic data gathering should basically turn off everything they own then. Also, only use cash, and only in-person teller banking, etc...the reality is that pretty much everything we do is monitored, so this is nothing new really. Of course, they should definitely inform users if and when they are monitoring, but pretty much nobody reads fine print anyway. ;)

There are better choices. It's amazing people use Google devices/services when they specifically tell you they are going to sell all your habits and info. At least Apple says they won't sell it and will do their best to anonymize your data. Is one better than the other? That should be obvious. Same goes for streaming services. Do you want your streaming service to sell your listening habits to anyone? Might be worth considering an "old-fashioned" library of music! Can't track vinyl!

I bet he would be a brilliant BOSE sales rep, they already use "alternative facts". and of course any product criticism is "fake news".
