Just wondering what other brands would be similar in sound as my Grado 125e but with much better comfort. Current using the L-cush pads with scotch tape mod and am quite happy. My Hifiman 400i are so much more comfortable with longer listening sessions but I prefer the brighter presentation of the Grados.

I'd be looking for something under $250 used. Would the G-cush pads significantly improve the comfort?

Some of the Beyerdynamic models might not be quite as bright but definitely have better comfort. The g-cush pads are a bit more comfortable but really change the sound and to my ears, not for the better.

grados have a sound all to themselves. i don't believe you will find another set like that. perhaps a set of Beyerdynamic or a pair of Sony. Your price range will limit your choices. Comfort and Grados do not go hand-in-hand.

I have the 225e from Grado so know what you mean. I can only think of AKG K240 and AKG K702 from what I own. they are really not as detailed in treble as the Grado but more so than others like Senns . The K702 are more detailed of the two but I find myself attracted to using the AKG K240 more. at $99.00 on amazon I recommend them. very comfy.

The HiFiMan HE400 series are ridiculously comfortable for stationary listening and sound amazing. I immediately sold my Grados after listening to them.
I love the Grado business but not their sound.
The Beyerdynamic DT770 are my closed back faves. Also super comfortable.

For what it is worth, I have "G" cushions on both by RS2 and PS-500. They make a "HUGE" difference in the amount of time you can wear your headphones. I can wear either one for 4+ hours without any need for taking them off. You will never find the Grado sound in another pair of cans. Purchase the bigger cushions and you will be able to have the best of both worlds.
