Of course. Blues is the original Folk music. Blues and Jazz are intrinsically linked. all modern forms of music from Rock to Rap and Hip Hop, Country, Disco, Trance, Techno,EDM, you name it. Despite what may appear to be a lack of similarity between these forms of music, all of them are an incremental progression of American Roots music, or the Blues.

Well, while you might say that all these forms of music share blues as their root, it's actually folk music that is the root of pretty much all of them. 'Folk' musical traditions go back hundreds of years, even in Canada. The blues in particular rose out of african american slavery, the hopes of emancipation, and the spirituals that they sang derived from religious beliefs along with african music and rhythm.
Blues is probably the earliest widely recorded genre of music, in America at least, and so blues fans often mistakenly say that it's the root of everything, but yeah, it ain't :)

Joe is a musician's musician...a highly respected and accomplished blues-rock guitarist who has shared the stage with many other greats over the past 30 years...he opened for BB King when he was 12!

If you don't know Joe...go directly to jail...do not pass go...do not collect 200 dollars!

his Acoustic evening recording displays the immense talent he possesses. Among the most musical sets I have ever heard but also it was recorded by 5 musicians from around the world that had only met for the first time a week before the performance.

Not to mention, Reggae, calypso, or anything that came from anywhere except North America....East Indian Raga players would be surprised to hear that everything came from the blues. Even rock musicians ( eg. Led Zeppelin ) looked to Africa for direction.

Joe B is touring now with Joe S (Satriani) along with Steve Vai right now I think. You have to be good to get into that trifecta of axe mashers.. Joe B did a show not long ago at Cosmo Music around the corner from me in Richmond Hill..

he is in Winnipeg Friday night and Calgary next Tuesday. There is no other act mentioned, in fact just as when I saw him in March, no warm up act and 8pm sharp start. They started announcing about 15 mins to take your seats before the show started. Like a sports event, they didn't let people pass after until there was a break in the performance.
