…The annual Dream Serenade benefit concert at Massey Hall last night.Proceeds of the event going directly to children in the community with severe developmental and/or physical disabilities & their families.
…Featured performers…Hayden…..Dan Mangan….Lou Canon….Amy Milan….The Persuasions…..Barenaked Ladies……Feist & Broken Social Scene.

Following the intro. and with little fanfare, out of the shadows at the back Gord Downie appeared…..the audience reaction was overwhelming…unlike anything I had heard/seen in 40 years of Massey performances. He then went on to do a rousing 4 song 25 minute set.

These folks donated their time to put on a show that was both powerful and moving…….

I like a few of the Hips songs, but I've never been a big fan. Altough that being said I am truely impressed by the bands work ethic and love of hockey and Canada. Gord Downie is a truly remarkable man and deserves the Order of Canada.

I saw the Hip at Ontario Place in one of the main bars they had where live acts could perform other than just on the main stage. It was around the time Up To Here had been released- great show and one of my fav Hip albums. Lots of Beer and Hip music that night so Gord and the band on stage is always a great experience.

Wow, great show and surprise! Massey Hall is full of surprises; I met Leonard Cohen right after his show there around 1986...

Many musicians love Massey and it's just as much a treat for them to play there as it is for us to attend, so they often pull out something special (especially the Canucks).

I was there as well. Awesome show and an awesome surprise! It was funny when Ed Robertson from the BNL came out and said imagine those people who came late thinking the opening act wouldn't be so good  Downie is an awesome human being!

There has been much commentary from the chattering masses regarding Gord's Secret Path project and the misappropriation of native history by a white man. God help us all if people can't see the benefit in having Gord highlight native issues. Apparently he doesn't have the right to make art out from native misery. I disagree.

...thanks for sharing the Cohen memory...

A few years ago, went to a Van Morrison concert at MH.At the intermission, decided to walk up the street to Tims for a coffee...…ahead of me was a large bearded man in a cowboy hat……it was Ronnie Hawkins…& as it turned out, also headed for Tims. While waiting in line behind him to be served, & since he was known for his great sense of humour,I quietly said over his shoulder ’…big fan Mr. Hawkins since the Nickelodian days…..had I known you would be here, would have brought my ‘Mojo Man (record) & asked for an auto'. ……there was a loud gutural laugh,as he turned and said…..(pp) ’man, nobody can be that old’.
…….Walking back to the theatre,he said the only reason he was at the show, was that Van had called him long distance wanting to get to-gether with him after the show, and that he would leave a ticket at the box office.
