Billy Joel - Hamilton Place 1977... my first concert ever, he must have played 4 or 5 encores

Long John Baldry - the Old Spectator hamilton 1979? ...there were about twenty people in the crowd, half of which got up on stage to play

Jonathan Richman - the corktown hamilton 2004? ...he and his drummer...

Tom Waits- the last two Massey Hall shows

The Band- 1984 Hamilton Place... without Robertson but powerful nonetheless... would have liked to see them at their peak though

Recently Bill Frisell at Seattle Jazz alley last summer, doing his john lennon covers, and blew my mind! Who knew Frisell could rock out like Hendrix! I like all his music, but never heard him live like this before. We were sitting about 10 feet from the stage, dead center.

I would love to have seen that show. Saw him a number of years ago at Harbourfront and all I can say is the man is a wizard.

If you have never been to Jazz Alley, and enjoy jazz, it can't be beat. I would say one of the top jazz venue's in the world. Check out their upcoming lineup here:

http://www.jazzalley.com/www-home/calendar.jsp

My wife and I regularly make the trip from Vancouver to Seattle just to visit Dimiriou's Jazz Alley. It seats I think about 300? It is a dinner jazz club, and what is really cool is you can specify which show of the night to see (i.e. 7:30 show, 10:00 show), and what time you will arrive and request dinner seats. When we saw Frisell last, the early set started at 7:00 so we arrived at 5 pm to have for dinner and drinks. The waiter seated us right at the front center table as we were one of the first to arrive, so only 5 feet from stage front. The stage is small, and sits low at tabletop level.

You don't pay for anything up front. You can reserve online, and you pay for your dinner, drinks, and show tickets when you leave at the end of the night. Drinks are served during the show as well, you don't have to wait for an intermission. The crowd always has been respectfully quiet when ordering, so that the show is not disrupted. Quite a difference from watching the Replacements fall down drunk and fans getting crushed!

Sitting up front so close is a great way to see a wizard like Frisell. You get to see his whole bag of electronic tricks he uses with his range of guitars.

That night, the entire audience was dumbfounded, everyone looking at each other like "do you believe this, this is amazing!". I've seen Bill a couple of other times, but this was electric guitar at it's best. I'm a big fan of Rory Gallagher, Hendrix, etc. and Bill's versions of Lennon's music that night was as good a sample of rock/genius guitar playing as I've ever heard live. I've seen a couple of hundred live shows in my time, but this was the most amazed I have ever been by a lead guitarist.

I am seriously envious, that must've been one helluva show. Sounds like a fantastic spot to hear him. Had a look at that line-up -- If I'm ever on the west coast I am so there.

....A stretch, but best seat at a small obscure venue....Ronnie Prophet & Barrie Alexander in Barrie's bedroom, tuning up for a Saturday gig with the CFRA Melodiers in Ottawa. :D..Ronnie,IMO, is up there with the best all around Rock/blues guitar players.Chet Atkins brought him to Nashville while he was a club regular in Montreal and his career took off.
