I have an Aurender music server that integrates directly with Tidal and Qobuz and nothing else... I don't want to go back to my Mac Mini and Audirvana; the interface and SQ aren't anything as good. I doubt that Qobuz can allow a single user to work if geo masking is used; IP addresses can change unless you pay extra for a static one and allowing an IP subnet mask to be passed through would unmask for a large number of users (which is probably what they wouldn't want, but I'm not a pro at this so I could stand corrected).

Hooped if this is true.

I tried both Tidal and Deezer and preferred the french service. CD quality and a Euro slant to the playlists.

Qobuz, sadly is not available in Canada, although perhaps with ip masking it might be accessible. Never tried it.

Quboz will be available in the USA in 2018. Maybe Canada will soon follow? I hope it does.

Maybe not quite like tidal, but there are many free streaming stations available in "not to bad" quality. The station listed in my previous post transmits great classical music at 320 kb/s. I am hoping that the free streamers will continue increase their bit rate. If anyone is interested I will make available a copy of my XSPF playlist file from which they will be able to listen to all of the streamers that I do. Should work well on foobar with minimal tweaking. I only listen to Classical and some Jazz.

Yeah. I can't handle Mp3

So Tidal really is the only option.

I'm sad once again.

Really think Tidal is marketing to the wrong people.

I found Tidal great for selection and SQ.

Now, I cancelled when I discovered I was being fleeced.
My HI-FI subscription was twice the cost because I created my account through the Apple APP.
I found out, if I created it through Tidal first, I would have paid a considerable sum less monthly.

It left a bad taste in my mouth.

Unfortunately, as already said - spodify really lacks in many ways.

I am hoping this is all just speculation. I use Tidal everyday and it has completely changed how I listen to music and when. I listen to it on my main 2 channel setup when I have the time to properly sit and listen. I listen to it in the kitchen over small speakers when prepping dinner. I listen to it in the summer out by the pool and I listen to it in my car as the music / playlists can be directly downloaded to my phone etc. This allows me to listen to Tidal on plane travel etc. as well.

To me, Tidal is the best $19.99 I spend a month and I would happily pay much more than that to keep it around.

Haven't bothering buying a CD since becoming a subscriber upon launch in 2015.

You were paying $40 a month for Tidal Hi-fi?

It's $28 a month vs $20 if you do it through the apple app. This is 100% greedy Apples fault, and should not reflect on Tidal.

One of the many reasons I loathe Apple.

I dont remember the exact amount. I think after tax and it was around $30. So, our last contributer may be right. (*edit, your right about cost - just checked, been awhile)

Not surprised it was Apple ;)

Wish somebody warned me first! I wanted to originally cancel and renew outside of Apple, but my guess was I'd lose all my playlists.

I never renewed.

I am a big fan of Tidal hi-fi as well. The selection and sound quality have been spot on for me. I send the data from laptop to DAC to tube buffer to preamp using shortest cables possible.

Still keep free Spotify app in case there's something I want that isn't on Tidal
Maybe I will load Deezer tonight just for fun.

194 KHz sound quality and lots of remastered music. What's not to like?

I will only buy CD's that are really special to me such as remastered Gentle Giant discs. Usually the packaging on the remastered discs makes them a nice little package.

Quote: In a statement to The Verge, a Tidal spokesperson said, “We have experienced negative stories about Tidal since its inception and we have done nothing but grow the business each year.”

Which means absolutely nothing. The high-art of public relations: If you can't answer the question, obfuscate.

Seems to me every 6 months someone shares that tidal is going to shut down, I think I read it the first time in 2015 soon after its inception, hasn't happened yet. Like most others, I really hope it doesn't , it is a great service with excellent sound quality. Going back to an MP3 streaming service would be a huge step back.
