Can someone direct me to a free PC app that will convert flac files to mp3 at 320kbps? I was using Free Audio Converter and it prompted me to update but unfortunatley the new version puts a "watermark" at the beginning of every song now.

Thanks! I was just using foobar to play files but never really looked at its features.

You will need lame.exe to use foobar
https://sourceforge.net/projects/lame/files/

No need to run the exe,
just download it, and when running your conversion in foobar you have to tell it where lame.exe is located on your pc.

I use a VLC player to rewrite FLAC files into WAVs.
You'll need to make a custom format for 1147 bps WAV files but it's easy.
It's fine to make MP3s for an MP3 player
but you might wanna keep the uncompressed qualities of the files intact and then burn them to CD for audiophile results.
Truthfully, a high-bitrate MP3 sounds awfully good
and even better in a HDCD format.

Exactly.... I'm guessing to put on a device that doesn't support flac. When I rip new CD's, I rip them to flac and apple lossless for that reason. Flac for my home streaming setup (squeeze server) and apple for my phone...

????
Ok, I don't mean to hijack this thread but what???? Are you expanding the extra dynamic range of an HDCD disc, and then compressing it to MP3? That seems a little crazy to me.

+1

I'm wondering too. IMO Just Go get

-- a hi-Rez player app for your iPhone or iPad (there are several including the ONKYO HF player app ) so you can play FLAC and even higher hi-Rez digital files
-- add in an Audioquest Dragonfly microDAC /headphone amp and Apple Camera V3 Lightning to USB adapter to bypass the cheap and crap quality audio performance iPhone or iPad (or any smartphone) internal DAC

And voila......

you have a FLAC and even higher Rez digital file playback system that is a quantum leap better than MP3 format and 320kbps format

I'm using a USB stick into the car stereo. I'm not sure if it'll read flac/wav files. MP3 320 sounds fine to me in my car's stock system.

I do the same, did you get it figured out?
