What is the easiest way to stream music stored on my PC's harddrive to the Chromecast Audio device? A quick internet search suggested to upload all music to Google Play Music. Will there be ads and playing limitations similar to the free version of Spotify? Another suggestion was using a program called Chromecast Audio Stream. How well does this program work? Is it easy to set up and use for someone with very limited computer skills?

Currently using an Audioengine D2 wireless system to stream stored music to a Benchmark DAC via Toslink input. Since I'm no longer using the D2 as a DAC, I thought I would sell it if there were a cheap/convenient alternative.

If my wife would agree to it, could I run a 30ft usb cable directly from the PC to the Benchmark?

a 30ft USB cable will not work. too long and the signal breaks up. I successfully run a 15ft USB to a powered hub and then another 10ft from the hub to the dac.

Well, you could always go this route -> by way of Logitec Media Sever then install a UPnP bridge...

Thanks for the suggestions. The above looks over my head and I didn't get past the 1st page. Wife said "no way" to a long USB cable. I think I'll get the Chromecast Audio anyways so the kids can stream from their phones.

Will the Chromecast stream in the same quality as the file on the phone or does it up/down convert?

I’m currently using Plex which is a free media server. You would install Plex on your PC and access the server using Google Chrome in order to create a library of your media files and cast music to your CCA. You could also use your phone or tablet to access the Plex server using a mobile app.

Les.
