Thread bump! Seeing as I originated this thread just over 6 years ago, I thought an update was in order. Just this morning I rediscovered my old Denon DL-110 down in my cartridge stash. Haven't used it in years & quite frankly I completely forgot about it. I even gifted one away to a buddy for his birthday (remember the CometSupply $88 deal?)...
Anywhoo, I slapped the DL-110 onto the big ol' arm of my JVC QL7 and holy Jeebus this thing is singin' like Sinatra! Forgot how incredible this sucker sounds. Big sound & phenomenal fidelity. Now I want a new one! However, I did scope the stylus on this one & although slightly worn, the stylus tip is still in terrific form. A nice surprise to be sure. The unwelcome surprise is the current price, which is now approaching $300. Damn!

I‘ve bought and sold a dl110 twice now. Keeps me coming back it sounds that good!

You can def keep your eyes on CAM and find one for under $200 by the way ;)

I really liked the sound of the 110. But, it took me some getting used to after having a Dyna 10x for quite a while. Different sonic signature, but unsure which I liked more.

A question though, as I still have my DL 110 and several other carts I am currently not using. What do you do with the carts while not in use? Some that have nice jewel cases are displayed near my table, but tiny hands got into one once and snapped a cantilever on me. Is there harm in storing a cart for a number of years? Or should I let them go?!

They were giving them away at the old price. Even at the new price you'd be hard pressed to find a quality nude elliptical stylus, never mind a whole moving coil cartridge to go with it.

Jazz LPs climb to a whole other level of satisfaction with the DL-110. I mean we all have moments of WTH, but this is ridiculous...

Yep, great value even at $300. Other interesting choice for similar money is the ATF3III and Ortofon Quintet Red although both are LOMC not HOMC.

Heya Rusty, is that a HOMC, high output? If not make sure your system can deal with an MC, moving coil cart. Not sure what you are using for a pre-amp.

I often see the Dl-110's going for sub $100 used, might be a way to save a little bit more.

Myself I have not heard it, but from all I have read it's a great entry MC cart. I think you can also find a DL-103 for about $125 used pretty consistently.

Cheers

This is a HOMC cartridge @ 1.6 mv output and works with any MM phono stage I have encountered.

The Denon cartridges have a particular affinity for jazz, I find.

That's a great album BTW, especially if you're bored of his usual fare.

What phono stages or step up transformers do people use with the denons?
