I recently purchased a Uher R-R but found there was no tape drive. The unit turns on, gives some hum & lights the signal tube. Taking the top cover off I discovered that most belts were in motion and the tape driving spindle was rotating against the tape. What was not working were the grey control buttons. Oh, they worked but didn't do anything besides go up and down. There was no mechanical movement positioning the tape against the heads to play or record. I don't want to start removing screws until I get an idea of where to look or what to look at. I tried to locate a manual but all I could find was a copy in German. I am trying to get it translated as we speak.
Can anybody with Uher experience help me get a start?

p.s. the first picture is of a retention clip and rubber washer that dropped out of the chassis when I turned it over (after I submitted this post).....looks like it could well be part of the problem, the second picture is a close up of the tape driving spindle area and the last picture is of course the Uher with the top removed
