Space Race

After the end of WWII the Russians and the Americans rushed to get their hands on the Nazi scientists. Rocket scientist Wernher von Braun entered the USA as part of Operation Paperclip where he ended up working for NASA, and the era of the space race between the Soviet Union and the United States began. (The Right Stuff - "It's called Sputnik" scene) The Russians scared the hell out of the Americans as the Russians were the first to put a sattelite in orbit. Then came the time were NASA worked so hard in their attempt to send an astronaut in space before the Russians, but suddenly, on 12 April 1961, Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin became the first man in space and became the Hero of the Soviet Union. Frustrated and sad about that the Americans lost the race to be the first to send a man to the space, the US Government officials and NASA leaders slammed their fist on the table saying >>Damn those Russians!<<. Then later, On May 25, 1961, President John F. Kennedy announced before a special joint session of Congress the dramatic and ambitious goal of sending an American safely to the Moon before the end of the 1960's as a goal https://history.nasa.gov/moondec.html
On 16 June 1963, Cosmonaut Valentina Vladimirovna Tereshkova became the first woman in space, and became the Hero of the Soviet Union. On 18 March 1965, Cosmonaut Alexei Leonov clinched a Soviet victory with the first ever spacewalk, and became the Hero of the Soviet Union.

I just heard that NASA and the Russian space agency are working together to place a moon base. Which is a very good thing. Probably old news too.

Americans won the space race. The Russians are now specialized in running a trucking service. They're losing that to SpaceX.

The EM drive appears as if it is going to be functional, while some avenues of media are still actively poo-pooing it.

Eg, "the don't look here, nothing to see, everyone go home empty handed" push happening here:

https://futurism.com/china-claims-they- ... -em-drive/

and the more balanced view of:
http://www.sciencealert.com/china-is-cl ... e-in-space

and a few dozen more like the second story.

What this means is it's rockets to low orbit or space planes and rockets, or whatever comes next, maybe a space elevator ("Sinclair Molecule Chain" to you sci-fi buffs)(fountains of paradise)..and then an EM drive systems for scooting around the solar system in decently low time frames. Ie, earth to Saturn in 2 months or similar.

Also, to attach such to extra-solar probes, the kind that could go shooting past voyager in maybe 3 years from now. Continual micro acceleration can do that.

An em drive makes a space elevator a functional proposition as you can finally get around and move the mass with you.
