I find ads where it says "Interest Check" confusing because I can't figure out why that phrase would be in an ad if someone was sincere about selling. Is this just a time-waster? Or an excuse to raise the listed price if lots of people respond? Or lower it if no one responds? Or just fishing?

To me, it means the sellers are hoping to find a sucker that is willing to pay too much.

Feeler ads are the equivalent of "just the tip"

...it's the old "You'll have to demonstrate just how badly you want this!" maneuver...top of the hucksters playlist since 1763...

I responded to an ad for an item I was interested in. I gave my offer for it. I got a call from the seller who left me a voice message telling me to be patient as he was still waiting for other interested parties. Well, I decided to move on.

Sometimes these guys just need to see if enough people are interested in it to keep it longer for themselves , sort of like an ego stroking, "geez if this many people want it maybe I should keep it..."

CAM has granted us the ability to ignore forum threads and private messages from certain members. I wish they would extend that to block classified ads from those members. The system could also send an automated message to replies to our ads indicating that the member has chosen not to receive messages from them.

It would make private lists redundant, and it would give greater visibility to ads from people we would prefer to deal with. There is nothing worse than seeing something I am looking for, then finding that it is being sold by someone with 3 or 4 negative feedbacks from unhappy buyers.
