If I'm posting a classified for a free item why can't asking price window be left blank?

Because CAM is a Classifieds Site for SELLING things, not for giving them away .... LOL!!!

To get around this, just post a 1 cent price or mark the ad as a trade for the promise of a thank you.

The classified listing is free, but presumably your item is not. Put a price that you think is a fair market value for the item. Please do not put a nominal $1 value.

Or use a "Best Offer" style ad with a value you would like to see, and let people make offers.

If you don't know the fair market value you can ask in the forums, use the Agon bluebook, or use an auction where the market value is determined by the bidders (although these last two options are not free).

Thanks Obi. Did as you suggested and marked price as one cent.

To Admin... presumably item is free

In this case, the item is a rather rare, pooched, high end piece of gear, but could be an interesting project for someone into DIY. If it were working, then it would have value, but being pooched, it has no real market value aside from a possible parts value, but only to someone who already owns such a rare piece.

The item has no value for the OP and he has no desire to see it wind up in landfill, but he wishes to pass it on to someone else who wants or needs it at no charge. This sort of thing comes up from time to time, so how do we deal with it?
