I got three of these CD shelves, for $10.00 each.

Condition is 9.9/10, however there are few of those shelf supporting rounded pins missing.
I am gonna find those.

One of these will accommodate 180 CDs.

The shelves are all adjustable, so you can use it for storing DVDs and Blue Ray as well.

Thanks Che, I will do that tomorrow.

What is the best way to store CDs/vinyl as far as the alphabetical sequencing is concerned?

I mean file Jackson Browne under J or B, and Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, under T or H?

That's the way I USED to file physical media also.

HOWEVER, my W10 computer files by artist's FIRST name, as in J for Jackson, and T for Tom, so I changed...just for uniformity.

Cheers, del Sol

I think you should order them chronologically by when you acquired them :)
For most things this is pretty simple, and I would agree with GotHi-hi and say B & P.
With Classical (and even with Jazz sometimes)...all bets are off :)

Jackson Browne or Tom Petty, that's an easy one. Do it the way many record stores would do it, file under "Jazz, Traditional"!

I agree, I file by genre, then alphabetically by the name I tend to associate with. The The has their own category...

However you file them, blank spaces are your friends! Nothing like filing the collection and finding a couple CDs and whole sections need to be moved to fit them in.

Petty and Browne are the artist's names, so I'd go with P and B.
Max Webster and Jethro Tull are not any of the members names, so I would go with M and J.
(Tull has their own 12" shelf in the Expedit and may start spilling into the next one.)

Of course I don't file using my own logic.
Which is kinda nice. And why I'm constantly "finding" records I'd forgotten I own.
Mis-filing is my worst nightmare. It really bites when I can't find what I'm looking for. Sometimes found several letters off. :?

Che, what have you got on either side of The The? For me it's The Pursuit Of Happiness and George Thorogood. That is assuming I haven't mis-filed.

I see it a bit differently, Tom Petty on his own, would be filed under P, but when you have the entire band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, I would say it should go under T.

Similarly, Bob Seger, should go under S, but Bob Seger and the Silver bullet band should be under B.

Hmmm. Interesting.

I hope I'm not up most of the night re-filing now.

+1 :)
My better half and I are currently "discussing" this... She wants to sort by genre, I'm thinking that's going to make it tough to find things at 9pm, let alone 1am!
