Folks,

In the high season for Christmas wreaths, large trees and hanging garlands (not to mention the mistletoe). I'm a little disouraged as my girlfriend moves around my Tannoy DC6 SE speakers. Moving my Yaqin tube phono and turntable. I'm very afraid of a tube getting knocked, the speakers getting knocked off their stands, or the real wood veneers getting scraped by garlands or tree branches or lights.

So, I think, in a tradeoff, to get to leave a setup complete in the living room, I'm going to swap out the Tannoys for smaller and less costly Mission bookshelves. They still fill the room, amazingly. But, don't have the same top end or definition as the Tannoys. But, I don't want to risk damaging their finish or operation

I may post a picture afterwards.

Please feel free to share experiences!

Our living room is for sitting/talking/reading/napping...no trade offs...no compromises... :D

I'm much the same, in with the tree out with the bigger speakers. No complaints, other than that I no longer want to wrestle with 80 lb., speakers. The change allows me to use other gear for a month instead of hiding it somewhere else and I can leave music playing for hours while enjoying the Christmas season. I am using a pair of Szabo 424's, modified with a Mark Audio full range drivers, no x-overs, sitting on a pair of refurbished Szabo bass extenders. It's actually a very nice tidy setup.

But is your power amp heavy enough to qualify for 'feats of strength"?

Funny you should start this thread because I am literally in the middle of moving my main living room system to the basement to make room for the tree my son and I cut down this morning. It's not fun but I like the traditions surrounding the tree and such so it's a temporary sacrifice I'm willing to make. 8)

Main setup is in the basement, safe from holiday interference.

Headphone setup shares the living room with the tree, but that is no problem.

Good luck!

We just reorganized the living room so that my speaker no longer fires into the end of the sofa. A major sonic improvement that has the unfortunate side effect of blocking where the tree normally goes. My lovely wife suggested we keep the room as is and more the tree downstairs. A definite keeper!
