I ordered a back up quad of KT88's from an Ebay dealer (huge +ve feedback) from the States, all goes well untill I receive this email from Ebay this morning -

"RESTRICTED ITEM
Dear Mark,
We are writing to inform you that your recent GSP transaction from shurefire cannot be completed.
The item was stopped at the Global Shipping Centre, and has been restricted from international shipment. The item will not be shipped forward to its final destination."

WTF :?: :?:

Maybe this should have been posted in the Trump Impeachment Thread!

Will assume you will be refunded? Did they give any reason?

Really weird. I've never had any trouble getting tubes sent up from the States. In fact, a pair of 211s sent from NJ just went through customs in Montreal and are on their way here now.

Where were you having them ship to if it was a US address I have had this happen before.

In my case the item listing indicated it would ship from USA so I had it sent to my mailing address in Blaine Washington, as it turned out the item was being shipped from some other part of the world and was blocked as it required an import licence if a business or a US Sin Number if personal.

I think it is to do with Ebay's Global Shipping Program
I too have bought tubes from the States with no issue previously - will keep you updated.

It's not by chance a mercury vapor rectifier tube?

Just got this from Seller -
"Mark, I have no idea why they restricted the tubes to Canada!! eBay sent me a e-Mail just before your arrived telling me the same thing, restricted.
They did say they were returning your full payment to you and I would not receive the tubes back. This was a "Null" action. They didn't deduct anything from my pay-pal account. I guess there going eat the expenses under there Buyer / Seller protection program. Maybe Canada is tightening up security on electronics coming across the boarder. Very puzzling. At least you weren't burned for the money.
Regards,
Brian"

Seems like yet another reason to avoid eBay's Global Shipping Program.

I once I had a vintage belt drive turntable returned to my by UPS as I didn't have the correct FCC clearance papers to send it to the USA.

I was going to buy them from China, to save a few $'s, but thought, mistakenly, that buying from US would be less hassle... couldn't be more wrong :?

Well, then you have to wait 2 months to get it.

Yes, I ordered a laser transport, it took 2 months to get to me. Ebay seller told me is because Canada is a big country that's why it took this long.

Sorry to hear about this! I buy tubes from Brent Jessie and Andy at Vintage Tube Services all the time with no problem via USPS. I always cringe when eBay sellers go through the GSP as it's always more expensive, but I will say the items seem to have a fast track through customs once they arrive in Canada so it's not all bad.

If you get to the bottom of why your tubes were marked as restricted please update us!

Todd

If it was stopped at the Global Shipping Centre, I assume this was the Americans not wanting to let them out of the country rather than Canada not wanting to let them in? Nothing surprises me with Canadian Customs (CBSA) anymore, but it seems odd that the Americans cared about them leaving the country.

Huh!?

I drove across the NY border just last month to pick up a dozen tubes?

As I drove in, I was asked what I was picking up. The customs guy didn't bat an eye.

It's got to be something with eBay's shipping program.
