What brand do you use?

What brand do you prefer?

What brand lastest longest?

I've used smoke glass gec and clear gec but they're old and tired. I did buy a new quad of pentas years ago but they didn't last very long at all!! Maybe 2 years and they burnt 75%!!

you went from vintage gec to rebranded valve arts - quite the spectrum sweep.

longevity is not written in stone.... your pentas prolly died from overbias. my minimal experience with Chinese tubes is yes they can sound great for the price but don't like to be pushed.

my 2 bits? gold lion kt66 reissues. if a little less warmth and a bit more grunt is what you crave try the tung sol reissues.

if moneys no object, the gec cv1075. .... sounds like you might be familiar with those : )

Depends on which amps you are using them in. You have to be careful that use have the correct ones in order not to damage the output transformers.

GEC smoked glass and clear glass are still the gold standard if you can find any. They generally last a long time. I have been using the Gold Lion reissues and like them a lot. They don't exactly sound like the GECs, they have a brighter sound with less bloom and warmth. But still nice tubes.
Can you use 6L6gc? Some nice choices there, Russian 6n3c-E (also known as 6p3c-E), Prefered Series 6L6gc and of course vintage GE and RCA.
Enjoy the roll!

I use the gold lion reissues as well. They're Better than the sovteks that came with the amp. I did have one fail after about 2 years of sporadic use. I may try the Chinese ones soon.

I'm using a matched quad of Pentas in Quad II's and they sound very good. It's been 3-4 years now, a few hundred hours and still running strong.

3-4yrs? wow Audio4ever!!

I just rechecked my previous quad and must have erred, they now read 80%, so not nearly as low as I thought!! The new quad was such a good price I couldn't pass it up anyways hopefully between the two quads I'm set for life! :D

If you run into some 7581A, those are the same as KT66's. These are a 6L6GC with a 35 watt plate instead of the normal 30 watt plates of the 6L6GC.

I should mention that I use them in an amplifier. An ancient home built amplifier that used Hammond iron. It sounds really great too. I have to rebuild it, just like any other amplifier out there.
