Anybody have any idea how much a restoration on Scott 299 would cost not including replacement tubes? Also can anyone recommend a good vintage tube tech. Preferably no farther east than Toronto or someone out west would be even more convenient. Name and Direct contact info would be appreciated.

Hi Mike,
The cost of a rebuild can vary depending on what you want and the actual condition of the receiver. It's a nice unit of higher quality than many other brands. It should get a new set of audio tubes, and it depends on how the radio section tubes are whether you replace them or not.

A restoration that is complete can run $500 to $800 or so depending on if someone was laying with the tuner alignment or not. It is hard to say without actually seeing the set. The work will be less costly if just capacitors are replaced (incomplete work really) or if the technician just cuts the leads and tacks the new components in. I refuse to do that because the right way is to remove the leads from the terminal points and feed the new parts exactly the way the old ones were. Using the correct capacitors for the circuit they are in is something that "recap" folks don't do as they don't have the training as a rule.

I'm in Georgetown and can give you numbers and address if you PM me. I'm just getting back to things after being ill for a long while.
