Rooting around at work and came across some interesting pieces that I need ideas for:
1/4 " solid aluminum, ten pieces 20" × 6", and one piece 20" × 12".
I'm thinking I might be able to assemble some kind of chassis for a future project, but I'm open as to what to do with them.
They're brand new but will need a bit of polishing and/or finishing to dress them up.
Anyone interested in a couple or few faceplate sized pieces, Gratis?
I'm always finding interesting stuff around here, but these actually have potential........Maybe some funky kind of art for the back yard?
:D

Depending on the type of aluminum it can be welded, bent under heat, drilled and bolted etc. Importantly is the aluminum anodized? If not, then there are a number of cool treatments you can do to change the look. Search under "engine turning" and you'll get an idea.

I work with various alloys and steel regularly. As well I build a few things in carbon fibre. All cool materials to work with if you know their relative strengths. I just built a floating shelf system for my secondary stereo system out of 3 X 1 inch 16 gauge steel and 10 inch live edge pine. Came out pretty good. My wife even likes it!

Take a look around on Pinterest; you'll find thousands of ideas.

I don't think that it's anodized, but I'm not a metalurgist by any stretch of the imagination. I didn't know that it made a difference.
Is there an easy test to see whether it's anodized? Artistic licence is always nice to have. :D
Paint? Acid etch? Sandblast? Engrave? Machine? Weld? Hmm maybe a few possibilities there.

Thats nice stuff. If you post a picture I can tell you if its anodized (I doubt it is).

If it is anodized it will have pleasing uniform grain, or what is known as draw lines.
Should be quite noticeable.
If simply mill finish aluminum it will appear quite blah, and may have marks of discolouration.
