A customer of mine, and a few other folks had requested some "black on black" custom Sugden gear.
When we got to see some pics of them, I was completely blown away.

It is possibly the nicest gear I have ever seen.

It obviously has turned a lot of heads, because it has now been added as a regular color option for Sugden!!!!!

They have appropriately named it "Stealth"

It is very hard to do these beauties justice in a picture, but they did fairly well:

I bought an A21 SE Signiture earlier this year and I think no picture does Sugden gear justice. It is some of the classiest looking gear I've seen.

Very nice but I can't read a darn thing on the preamp...

BTW Sugden is offering, as you mentionned, a very nice service with the custom colour option:

I like it.

I do miss the old black and yellow. Nice if they offered both.

Wow..though not in the market, especially for any SS stuff, those pieces do look particularly bad-a$$ :)
Much better than their previous offerings imo.

Seriously nice looking gear.

Makes my McIntosh look gaudy in comparison. But a lot of people think that way of McIntosh.

That reminds me of the original Carver Anthracite color; the new Sugden hue seems a lot darker. In the day, Carver had a problem with keeping the shade consistent, even on the same product.

I have had many positive comments from the look of my Peachtree Nova 150 with the darker face

And with Odyssey you get a cool blue light name plate to go with the stealth graphite look... (not my pic but from CAM)

A big bright blue nameplate kind of defeats the "stealth" look

The writing is easier to see in real life. The Black writing on the black face was apparently very hard to photograph.

There is a ton of "black" gear out there, like some of the examples shown, but none I have seen do the complete blackout of every single thing like Sugden. That's what I love about it. Complete blackout, not one stitch of white writing, or a silver screw, or a lit display.

In the world of chassis building, the anodization of the chosen substrate, is the way to go.

Aluminum is the choice and into the anodizing bath it goes.

However, getting the tonality the same each and every time, is near impossible.

Color choices are not recommended, as they cannot be matched in intensity, depth, tonality, and so on.

A nice strong black looks near identical as the next strong black, and is unlikely to fail or fade.

Anything lighter or different is likely to fade. All dyes fade under the influence of light and so on. One can lay out a set of 100 amplifier faceplates that are colored the same color, at five years of age which have been used in various environments, all originally done on the same day in the same anodization bath.... and it is unlikely that most of the faceplates could be matched with more than a few (5-6 maybe) of the rest of the hundred laid out.

If a manufacturer wants consistency, at all.... it can be any color you like ---- as long as it is a strong black.
