In Toronto I like Sonic Boom as they do a great job of sorting by artist, their misc abcd etc are quite small it makes it very easy to browse there.

Need to do a Montreal record shopping weekend at some point I always find lots of great stuff there- any recommendations on where to go would be appreciated it's been awhile Beatnik maybe?

Beatnik is only the start Weirdness. So many great little record shops hidden in holes in the wall around here. I can count at least 20 good places within a 10 block radius of my home. If you do make it down to Beatnik, say hi to Spike for me!

In the east Beatnik is great, but Taz in Halifax may be the best.. There's a crazy good store in west Calgary too, forgot the name now. Taz was way more well laid out though.

Yes but all the votes get wiped out and everyone has to re-vote.

100% download if possible. No need for physical media. Was a tough mental hurdle to jump at first, but haven't bought physical media by choice in about 3 years. Only instance would be if I REALLY like and album and can't download the FLAC. Even then it p*sses me off to have to do it, artists and labels need to get with the times.

I used to love going to B&M stores and searching for titles, but now with two young children, the mroe I can do from the convenience of my own home the better.....+ more time to actually listen.

I got from:

1) online physical orders
2) local stores
3) online/local audiophile sites (Audiogon, CAM, ebay)

I never downloaded anything.

Me too..... more than one source.

LPs;
Cheapies Hamilton and Alternative Audio mostly then - Niagara Records.

Sunrise - occasionally.

Online - only a few LPS I've bought when I can't get them elsewhere.

And - sometimes from CAM

CDs;
Discount stores - Value Village etc..

Fine by me. I couldn't select only one.

I can walk to 4 excellent record stores from my office, HMV, Play de Record, Kops and Around Again. That is where I get all of my music. On LP only. If I visit a new city, I do try to hunt down a local hifi or LP shop too.

I will buy anyplace, but voted for the Mom and Pop, but mostly the Pop...

Ian at Compact Music, here in Ottawa, and I have enough history, that I can walk in and he'll point me a two or three folks I've never heard, but needed to! You just don't get that service from anyone who doesn't live and breath this stuff!

I voted for online download as that has been my predominant choice the last few years, although I still avail myself of all of the other choices as well.

However since I have unlimited internet access (i.e. no download caps), I'm trying out Tidal (a lossless streaming service) and I'm pretty sure my purchases are going to significantly decrease; despite a feeling of unease in not adding to the personal collection. Quality is as good as ripped CDs and so it is hard to justify buying when you can stream for a monthly cost that's roughly the equivalent of about 1 1/2 CDs or 1 hi-res download.

I like to go to Archambault and HMV, BUT, they make it almost impossible to flip throuh the records. They have increased 3 fold in numbers, yet the minimal space allowed way in the back of the store and in very tight spaces. The records are cramped together. Result: once I spent 5 minutes or so fighting my way through, I walk away, empty handed.

They might as well stop carrying records if they can't allow us a proper buying experience and respect.
